Chapter 244
After Thaddeus departed, Evadne helped a numb Jason back to the office.
She gentlyid Jason’s trembling b*dy t, his forehead beaded with sweat, his l*ps tightly pursed. Shemenced a preliminary examination of his limbs with the precision of a seasoned surgeon
“Miss Evadne. I’m fine”
Although Jason was numb all over, he wasn’tpletely incapacitated. Seeing Evadne so concerned for him, he felt a lump in his throat, “I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”
“Nonsense, you were only trying to protect me. Just don’t be so impulsive next time; Evadne admonished gently, her hands working to massage his legs. “I wasn’t impulsive.”
Jason mustered all his strength to sit up on the couch, his gaze determined, “Even if it happened a thousand times, I’d still be the first one to jump in to protect you.” Jason, you can’t just rely on your skills and overestimate yourself, exposing yourself to dangers you can’t handle. You’re no match for Thaddeus! Do you think he was just idling away his four years in military school?”
Evadne’s eyes reddened with worry. “He was lenient with you today. If you weren’t my man, he might have dislocated your arm!”
“I don’t care! What’s death to me?”
Jason stood up shakily, his tall figurepletely overshadowing Evadne, “Even if it kills me, I won’t let that brute harm you!”
“Jason.” Evadne stared, wide–eyed, into his teary eyes.
The next second, Jason’s tears began to fall.
Due to his numbed nerves, he didn’t even realize he was crying.
“Jason, why are you crying again?”
Evadne teased, her heart filled with a bitter sweetness as she raised her hand to wipe his tears.
Suddenly, Jason, mustering courage from somewhere, wrapped his long arms around her waist and pulled her into his embrace.
His other hand pressed down on her back, as if he wished to melt her into his pounding chest.
Evadne, not a fool, could sense theplex emotions in Jason’s hug.
“Jason, let me go. Let’s talk,” she gently pushed him away.
“Miss Evadne. I’m ready to take any punishment you deem fit for my actions,” Jason’s face was tear–streaked, resembling melting ice.
He knew he was ying the victim card, pitifully begging for a piece of candy from his mistress.
It was somewhat shameless, but he felt angry, distraught, and was on the verge of going crazy!
However, Evadne wasn’t someone who was easily swayed.
She gave him a stern look, her voice cold, “Starting tomorrow, you’re taking a week off. Go home and rest.”
“But Miss Evadne.” Jason was taken aback, his heart aching.-
“Your stress levels have been high recently and your emotional fluctuations have been drastic. This week, rx and sort out your feelings. Think about how you want to continue working by my side.”
Glynnis had been interrogated by the police overnight. It had been a whole day.
These twenty–four hours had been torture for Glynnis, who was ustomed to a life of privilege. Even though she was given food and drinks, she was not allowed to sleep or rest. She was exhausted, with dark circles under her eyes, her behind sore from sitting for so long!
A harsh light was shining down on her, making her expensively maintained hair seem dry!
It was torture!
1 didn’t. Caroline wasn’t my spy. It has nothing to do with me. I was framed by Evadne. I am the victim here.”
Glynnis barely had any energy left, but she kept on denying, her words as stubborn as a mule.
Just then, the door to the interrogation room opened.
A man, dressed in a suit and carrying a ck briefcase, walked in. He exuded a calm and confident aura.
“Officers, I am Ms. Glynnis’s attorney, Cedric Dempsey.”
Cedric, the famouswyer?
Glynnis’s eyes lit up at the sight of him.
Cedric gave her a reassuring smile, “I need to have a word with my client.”
Glynnis followed Cedric to another room, as the only person she was allowed to see was herwyer.
“Mr. Cedric! Did my father send you to rescue me?”
Glynnis grabbed Cedric’s hand, tears streaming down her face, “Help me! I can’t hold on much longer!”
‘Ms. Glynnis, please rest assured. If I took your case, it means I have at least an 80% chance of getting you acquitted.”
Cedric spoke gently, his eyes sharp, “But you need to cooperate with me fully. Tell me everything about the incident and don’t hide anything.”
“Okay, okay!”
Glynnis nodded vigorously, thinking about how Cedric had previously handled even her mother’s big mess. She believed he could save her, so she ryed every
detail about the incident.
Cedric listened without uttering a word.
“Mr. Cedric, can’t you do anything about that Evadne? She’s so detestable!”
Glynnis mmed her hand on the table in anger, “If it weren’t for that wretched woman, how could I have ended up in this situation?”
“Ms. Glynnis, Evadne is your prosecutor, and she’s the victim. And you know very well what kind of background shees from.”
Cedric’s gaze darkened, “This time, our opponent is formidable. The Ashbourne family’s heiress is ruthless. If we can get you off the hook, that’s good enough. Don’t set your expectations too high”
Glynnis felt snubbed, but given her situation, she dared not throw a tantrum.
“Your user, the reporter Caroline, is involved with the editor–in–chief of Pioneer Post. This can be useful to us. It can indirectly prove that the witness’s testimony is unreliable.”
Cedric’s eyes were dark and deep, expertly twirling the pen in his hand. “Also, there’s that suspect, Kevin. He was in a romantic rtionship with Caroline before the incident happened. This is crucial. It’s the breakthrough we need for the case.”
“Do you mean we should pin everything on Kevin?” Glynnis dropped her voice to barely a whisper, her tone </bced with shock.
Cedric offered a cryptic smile.
“But would he take the fall? As far as I know, he’spletely broken things off with Caroline.”
“You needn’t worry about that.”
Cedric, the acewyer of Elmsworth, had made his way to where he was today not only through the influential connections of the Dempsey family in the bar or his exceptional abilities, but also his cunning and ruthless tactics.
To win awsuit, to turn a case around, at times, unconventional measures were necessary.
Despite Jason’s constant pleas, Evadne finally gave him a leave of absence.”
The leave wasn’t meant for him to rest but to reflect, to consider how he should approach her.
After Ada’s persistent requests, Evadne, under the guise of Alea, finally agreed to meet her.
#
Ada, an international superstar, had no airs left in front of Evadne. She served the tea and poured the water, only left with an adoring gaze.
Evadne didn’t n to make things hard for her. She might be Alea, but she was foremost a businesswoman. A moment of pride wouldn’t help, boosting the hotel’s poprity and making money were the main goals.

So, she agreed to take on Ada’s wedding..
Ada was absolutely overjoyed, almost bending the knee in gratitude!
knee in gratitude
Not only that, Ada assured her a generous budget and swore that if the K Group needed a spokesperson for any product, she would take on the role for free, just to make up for her previous mistakes.
“President Ashbourne, this is?” Ada asked, looking at the document in front of her with surprise.
Evadne elegantly sipped her coffee, “Your new wedding n.”
Ada and her manager looked at each other in shock. “So fast?“.

Evadne casually put down her coffee cup. “When I’designed the first wedding n for you, I had a backup n, just in case. I didn’t think I’d actually need it.”
Ada pursed her l*ps, feeling a mix of emotions.
“President Ashbourne, the wedding is just around the corner. Isn’t the project too big? Will there be enough time?” The manager asked with concern.
“I know you have always been a fan of the gothic style. You’d be interested in ck roses, right?” Evadne asked, her almond eyes curved in a question.
“ck roses?” Ada eximed, her voice filled with excitement.
“The previous wedding venue was decorated with tons of red roses. If we want to redo everything, the time might be too tight. But if we rece the red roses with ck Swan roses, it should be a lot easier.”
Ada’s face flushed with excitement!
The previous n by Evadne was satisfying, but this one was straight out of her dreams!
ck roses symbolized mystery, desire, and exclusive possession.
It was unique, yet deeply and coolly romantic.
“ck roses? Wouldn’t that be inauspicious?” The manager asked nervously.
He knew that this move would create a sensation on the inte, coupled with a celebrity wedding, the topic would definitely trend.
President Ashbourne was truly amercial genius. For her, making money was just part of the deal, boosting the hotel’s fame was the real jackpot! But in this scenario, wouldn’t Ada be exploited?
Is it my wedding or yours? And I’m having a serious conversation with President Ashbourne, is it polite for you to interrupt?”
Ada red at her manager, “Since I chose to work with President Ashbourne, it means that I fully trust her. I ept all her suggestions. You don’t need to say anything more!”
After re–signing the contract, Evadne sent Ada and her team away. She went back to give her team theirtest assignments before leaving the hotel to head home.
As soon as she stepped out of the doors, she saw Cassius‘ Rolls Royce waiting for her, the driver respectfully holding the door open for her.
“Cassius! You’re avable today to pick me up from work!” Evadne jumped into the car and threw her arms around Cassius‘ n*eck in a yful manner/
“I heard you gave Jason a leave.” Cassius patted her soft hair.
“Mmm, he’s been too tiredtely. He needs more rest.”
“Is that so?”
Cassius narrowed his eyes, seeing through her intentions. “You’ve been busy with a lot of thingstely. It’s the time when you need help the most. You sent Jason away at this crucial moment. What’s your purpose? Do you two have a fight?”
Evadne frowned. “Cassius, that sounds strange. We’re not in a rtionship, there’s nothing to fight about.”
“So, he has a crush on you, and you panicked, right?”
“Cassius, what are you talking about?” Evadne eximed, her eyes wide.
“Jason’s feelings for you are clear to us all,” Cassius said with a soft smile.
“You all?”
“And Suri. She mentioned it to me a few days ago. She didn’t want to tell you directly, so she told me.”
Evadne sighed. Jason’s secret crush on her was now public knowledge!
How embarrassing.
“Suri is afraid that Jason, harboring such feelings, would affect your daily life. After all, you two spend so much time together. Currently, in the Elmsworth mansion, only you two are living there. Suri is worried, Cassius said, his tone serious as he held Evadne’s hand.
Evadne knew that Suri considered her like a daughter, that’s why she was so concerned about her personal life.
She was worried that with a man and woman living together, Jason might not be able to control his desires and make a move on iter.
“I trust Jason’s character, he wouldn’t do something inappropriate. But you suddenly gave him a long leave, I can’t help but ask/ Cassius said with a hint of worry in his eyes.
“Actually, I gave Jason a chance to reflect.”
Facing Cassius, Evadne had nothing to conceal anymore, her expression turning serious. “I’ve noticed that he has feelings for me. I gave him time off to adjust his mindset and sort out his feelings towards me. It’s also a wake–up call for him. If he can’t let go of his affection for me, then I can’t keep him by my side.”
Cassius frowned slightly. “Can you really be that ruthless? To just abandon him?“.
“I’m doing this for his own good.”
Evadne sighed in frustration. “I’ve no ns to fall in love again in this life. There’s absolutely no chance for him and me. If he works beside me, seeing me every day but never able to reach my heart, wouldn’t he feel terrible? Wouldn’t he feel pain? I know the sharp sting of unrequited love, and I don’t want anyone I care about to suffer through that. Jason is a good man, he shouldn’t waste his time on me, he deserves better.”
-At her words, Cassius felt a twinge in his heart and pulled her into a tight embrace.
At that moment, his phone rang.
Cassius held Evadne in his right arm and answered the phone with his left, his tone icy. “What is it?” “President Ashbourne, Glynnis has just been acquitted! She was bailed out by Cedric!”
After three days of confinement, Glynnis was finally set free.
