Chapter 33

I knew that Zion was quite discontent with the fact that I had a girlfriend, and I felt equally frustrated.

He was the one who had disrupted my rtionship with Selena in the first ce, yet now that I had chosen to divorce her, he seemed to have a problem with me finding someone new. I couldn''t fathom where he got the audacity to look down on

    me.

Being under his roof, I had no choice but to keep my head down, especially since I felt like I was being held captive by him. Sighing, I looked at him and said, "We agreed that if I helped Selena take a bath, you would give me my phone back."

Zion sneered, pulling out his own phone and waving it in front of me. "I never said I''d return your phone. I just said you could make a call." With that, he unlocked his phone and handed it to me.

Looking at his phone, the wallpaper showed a photo of Selena and him together. Seeing that made me lose the desire to make the call.

Forget it, it was just a phone-nothing special about it. It was just a tool to fulfill my needs. I was about to dial Sylvia''s number when a text message came in. "We''ve found out everything about that woman. Meet at the usual ce tonight." Woman? Usual ce?

I frowned and nced at Zion, but he showed no reaction. His eyes were fixed on the hospital room.

Not wanting him to pull any tricks behind my back, I hesitated for a second before deciding to delete the message.

I entered Sylvia''s number immediately, and as the phone rang, my heart raced with anxiety.

I had been in Adenville for almost a week now, and I hadn''t seen Sylvia at all. I missed her so much. I even dreamt about her at night, reminiscing about our happy times together.

But waking up meant those moments vanished, and I still could not see her.

After what felt like an eternity, all I got was a polite automated response from customer service. I couldn''t believe it, so I tried calling her again, but oddly enough, none of my calls got through.

Frowning, I felt a sense of dread creeping in, but I tried to reassure myself that I was probably overthinking things.

Maybe she was in a meeting. It wasn''t umon for meetings to prohibit phones, and it was only three in the afternoon-meetings could definitely be happening.

"What''s the matter? Not getting your calls answered makes you uneasy? How about I let you try again tonight so that you can satisfy your urge to talk to her?" Zion suggested.

Just as I was about to agree, he seemed to read my mind and chuckled. "Just kidding. You really took that seriously, Hudson. Your girlfriend''s the one who did not pick up. Don''t me me. Since you''ve used this opportunity, you should wait a few days before you try again."

With that, he took the phone away, not even giving me time to delete our chat history.

I wanted to curse Zion for being so scheming, but the phone was his, and I was the one in a vulnerable position. I had no choice.

Seeing my frustration amused him. He came over and patted my shoulder. "As long as you take good care of Selena, I''ll make sure you''re not shortchanged after she recovers. As for your girlfriend, I''ll handle that for you."

Handle? What was he going to do?

I was puzzled, but just as I opened my mouth to ask, Zion turned to leave, clearly not interested in addressing my questions.
