Chapter 3166:
Early that morning, Hadley’s rm startled her awake, and almost at the same moment, her phone lit up with a call from Ernest.
She answered in a rush. “Ernest?”
“Hadley, I am sorry for putting you through this again.”
Once she heard what he needed, she sat up at once. “It’s alright, Ernest. I’m heading over now.”
After ending the call, she exined everything to Eric while she changed her clothes.
“I need to go ahead,” she said. She then headed straight for the main building.
When she got there, Ernest stood outside the master bedroom with a troubled look. “Hello, Hadley. I couldn’t get her to tell me where she heard it.”
“It’s all right, Ernest.” Hadley tried to reassure him.
In a ce like Srixby, rumors spread fast. No one lived quietly here, not even Elissa.

“The good thing is your wedding ising up soon,” she added. Folks in town always chased after the newest story, so the old one would fade soon enough. “I’ll talk to Elissa.”
Hadley pushed the door open and found Elissa sitting on the sofa. She walked over quickly.
One look told her Elissa barely slept. With a frown and a small shake of her head, Hadley said, “Is something this small really worth losing sleep over?”
She held Elissa’s hand as she sat beside her and went straight to the point. “You aren’t a third party. Ernest’s past rtionship was never the right fit.”
How could she exin it clearly?
Hadley thought for a second and decided to begin from before Linda showed her true colors.
“She and Ernest were far too alike,” she started.
Deep inside, they both carried a selfish streak and a certain coldness. The difference was that Ernest still held some warmth for his family.
That was probably why he never fell for Linda in all those years.
“They were so simr that it felt like staring into a mirror. There was nothing exciting about it.”
Elissa blinked at her, puzzled.
Distant, self-centered, and far from interesting? That didn’t sound like Ernest at all.
“Ernest is not like that—is that what you’re thinking?” Hadley grasped her meaning. “He doesn’t show that side when he’s with you, right?”
“No.” Elissa gave a small shake of her head.
“That’s right.” Hadley offered a warm smile. “That’s why you and he fit so well together.”
Elissa returned the smile.
“You’re smiling now. Does that mean you’re alright?” Hadley let out a quiet breath of relief.
Elissa looked a little embarrassed. “I’m sorry for troubling you.” Hadley had shown up early just to straighten things out.
“There you go saying that again.” Hadleyughed. “It’s never a bother for me. You only managed to frighten Ernest.” She pointed toward the door. “Should I let him in now?”
“Okay.”
“Very well then.” Hadley stood, stepped outside, and called him in.
“Elissa.” When Ernest walked in, he brushed his knuckles on the door as a courtesy. “I am stepping in now.”
Inside, Elissa gave him a brief nce before heading into the walk-in closet to change. Ernest followed, still unsure of himself.
Elissa ignored him while she sifted through the clothes in the wardrobe.
“Let go of that anger.” Ernest stepped closer and wrapped his arms around her from behind. “Alright? I had no way of knowing I’d meet you back then.”
Sure. It had already happened long ago. Elissa knew that well. Yet…
When Ernest noticed the lingering gloom on her face, worry crept into his voice. “You don’t trust me?”
“It’s not about trust.” Elissa shook her head and chose honesty. “I just can’t remember anything from before. It feels strange.”
“Don’t feel sad.” Ernest held her delicate fingers with care. “I’ll tell you everything about what we had. And as time goes on, we’ll make plenty of new memories together, won’t we?”
“Yeah.”
