Chapter 3046

    Chapter 3046:

By the time Ernest surfaced and wiped the water from his face, she was already gone—darting into the next room.

Frustration built within him. He struck the water with his arm, sending a spray of droplets into the air.

Then, with his eyes closed, he let out a low, humorlessugh.

    She didn’t like him?

Later that evening, after returning from the spa, Elissa rested for a while.

When the sky began to darken, a knock sounded at the door. Savannah went to open it and was pleasantly surprised. “Oh—it’s Emma. Come in.”

“Mrs. Brown.” Emma greeted her with a warm smile as she stepped inside. “I came to see Elissa. Is she here?”

“She is.” Savannah nodded and gestured toward the bedroom. “She’s in her room.”

She then called out, “Elissa, Emma’s here to see you.”

“Okay.” Elissa’s voice floated out first, followed by her appearance. She smiled faintly when she saw Emma. “Hello, Emma.”

“Hey, Elissa.” Emma stepped closer, taking her hand. “Didn’t we say we’d hang out? There’s a party tonight—lots of young people will be there. Want toe with me and unwind a little?”

Elissa hesitated, turning to her mother for direction.

Savannah paused as well. “A party for young people?”

    She knew the party.

It was a gathering for the sons and daughters of powerful families, the kind of event meant for connections and quiet ambition.

The gathering wasn’t meant for people her age. But Elissa was different. Could she really let her daughter go there alone?

“Mrs. Brown,” Emma said gently, noticing her hesitation. “Elissa won’t be alone. I’ll be with her.”

She squeezed Elissa’s hand reassuringly and added, “Besides, she already knows everyone who’ll be there.”

Indeed, Elissa had spent most of her life in Ontmond, growing up alongside the children of wealthy families.

“Mrs. Brown, you can’t keep Elissa cooped up forever,” Emma said with a yful grin. “Let her hang out with us more. I’ll make sure she gets home safely.”

“You’re right.” Savannah hesitated, but Emma’s words softened her.

“Well then…” She turned to her daughter. “Elissa, do you want to go?”

Elissa bit her lip before nodding.

    She did want to.

Her mother had always been by her side, and she wanted to see if she could manage on her own.

“Alright, then.” Savannah could read her thoughts. “Go and enjoy yourself with Emma.”

“Perfect!” Emma squeezed her hand with a wink. “See?”

Elissa smiled, her heart fluttering with a mix of excitement and nervousness.

“Now go on and change. Wear something nice.”

    “Okay.”

“I’ll wait for you,” Emma said cheerfully.

When Elissa was dressed, she linked arms with Emma, and together they left the room.

After they were gone, Savannah picked up her phone and dialed a number. “She has gone out.”

On the other end, a deep voice replied—it was the Brown family’s bodyguard. “Understood, Mrs. Brown. We’ll keep an eye on Miss Brown and make sure she’s safe.”

    “Good.”

The party was far livelier than the ball from the night before.

Emma led Elissa inside, greeting people as they passed.

“Look.” Emma tugged at her arm, pausing mid-step. She tilted her head toward the garden. “He’s here too.”

    “Who?”

    Elissa followed her gaze, puzzled.

Out in the garden, near a small fountain, Ernest sat alone. A crystal ss rested in his hand, the faint glow of the light flickering across his face as he drank in silence.

“Come on.” Emma curled her lips into a knowing smile, tugged Elissa’s hand, and led her toward Ernest.
