Chapter 3018

    ?Chapter 3018:

With that, he eased the window shut and slid down the rope in one swift motion.

Elissa stood by the window, feeling dazed and unmoored.

He vanished just like that? She didn’t know why, but her heart suddenly hammered wildly against her ribs.

“Miss Brown?” The caretaker entered the room, bncing a tray carefully in her hands. “You didn’t answer, so I got worried and let myself in. Are you…”

The caretaker studied her with visible suspicion. “Miss Brown, are you feeling alright?”

“No, no.” Elissa felt flustered and shook her head with force. “I’m perfectly fine.”

    “Let me check.”

The caretaker didn’t look reassured. She set the tray down carefully and approached, reaching out to press her palm against Elissa’s forehead.

“Well, you’re not warm. No fever.” She stared directly at Elissa’s face. “How strange! Why is your face so flushed?”

“I don’t know.” Elissa shook her head and managed a small, unconvincing smile. “Really, I’m fine.”

“That’s a relief.” The caretaker smiled in return. “It’s time for your medicine. Once you’ve taken it, we’ll have dinner soon.”

    “Okay.”

On the exterior wall, Ernest continued his work, his mind circling back to what Elissa had been trying to say to him before the interruption.

Had she been about to ask if he was…

    He was what, exactly?

At the main entrance, Robin stood waiting while the butler offered an apologetic smile. “I’m terribly sorry, but Mrs. Brown is not home at the moment. Perhaps you could return another day?”

Robin looked reluctant to leave so easily. “What about Elissa? Could I see her instead?”

“I’m afraid that won’t be possible,” the butler said with polite firmness. “Mrs. Brown left strict instructions that no visitors are permitted to see Miss Brown while she’s away.”

“I see…” Robin forced a reluctant smile across his face. “Then I’ll be on my way.”

    “Safe travels.”

From his perch on the exterior wall, Ernest watched Robin’s departing figure with narrowed eyes.

So Robin hadn’t given up yet. Was he trying to take advantage of Elissa’s vulnerable state?

    Not a chance!

Clearly, Elissa remembered him but not Robin. What could Robin possibly offer topete with that?

Robin had been part of Elissa’s life once and ruined everything himself.

    Now, it was Ernest’s turn.

The following day, a few minutes past ten, Ernest was already up on the scaffolding. He had his mask on and kept a sharp eye on the entrance.

A servant soon appeared and pushed the door open. Robin stepped inside right after.

Ernest’s brow tightened as an itch rose in his throat, making him cough over and over.

Behind him, the bodyguard who had blended in alongside him spoke up. “Are you all right, Mr. Flynn? You should probablye down and take a short break. I can drive you back.”

“There’s no need,” said Ernest, giving a firm shake of his head.

He was trying to blend in with the workers, and if Savannah caught sight of him wandering in and out too easily, it could raise suspicion.

But Robin was already inside the house now.

Was there even a reason for him to keep standing here?
