Chapter 2942

    ?Chapter 2942:

“I need to find his doctor! I’ll find them myself!”

Her tear-filled eyes were wild and unfocused as she lunged desperately toward the door.

“Hadley, wait!” Startled by her sudden movement, Ernest rushed forward to intercept her. “Stop! You don’t need to go! There’s no need for that!”

He shot an anxious re toward Eric on the bed. This fool… was he really going to keep this charade going?

“Ernest!” Hadley struggled against his hold. “Let me go! I need to find a doctor! Someone has to save him! We can’t just stand here doing nothing…”

“Hadley.” Ernest could barely bring himself to meet Hadley’s desperate gaze. “Listen to me, there’s really no need.”

“Ernest!” Her tear-streaked eyes locked onto his. “Don’t say things like that! Eric is going to be fine!”

She clutched Ernest’s arm desperately, her voice breaking. “Get the best doctor! If he needs surgery or a transfer to another hospital, arrange it! Please, do something…”

Panic coursed through her veins so violently that the back of her neck turned cold and stiff.

“Hadley!” Ernest grabbed her shoulders to steady her.

“Ernest…” Hadley shook her head as her vision blurred with tears.

Her voice cracked with emotion. “Didn’t the doctor say he’d fully recovered after the surgery? Where is that doctor now? Someone bring him here!”

A heavy silence fell. Ernest had no words left. He couldn’t maintain this ridiculous charade any longer.

He suddenly jerked his head up and bellowed toward the bed, “You brat! Enough of this nonsense!”

“What??” Hadley froze, tears brimming in her eyes as she stared at Ernest in bewilderment. “Ernest?”

She wondered who he could possibly be addressing. What did those words even mean?

Ernest offered no exnation, merely jerking his chin sharply toward the bed.

    Eric remained perfectly motionless.

“Humph.” He sneered and barked furiously, “Show’s over. Get up already!”

    “What?” Hadley breathed.

Was Ernest actually talking to Eric? But what did he mean by “show’s over”?

On the hospital bed, Eric maintained his silence. Finally, he cracked one eye open hesitantly, then winced with embarrassment as he stretched and pushed himself upright.

    “What?” Hadley gasped.

Her eyes flew wide open, shock and confusion swirling in their depths. What was happening?

Eric… wasn’t he supposed to be gravely ill? How had he just casually sat up like nothing was wrong?

“What is going on?” For a terrifying moment, Hadley wondered if her overwhelming grief had triggered some kind of hallucination.

She stared unblinking at Eric, though her question was directed at Ernest. “Ernest, am I experiencing a rpse?”

When Linda had directed Chelsey to poison her before, the toxins had damaged her nervous system, causing vivid auditory and visual hallucinations.

“No.” Ernest gazed down at her with unexpected gentleness. “You’re perfectly fine. There’s nothing wrong with you… The real crazy one…” His tone shifted abruptly as he ground his teeth together. He red daggers at his brother. “Is him!”

Then he added sharply, “He’spletely lost his mind!”

Under Hadley’s stunned gaze, Ernest finally lost all patience and snapped, “Get over here right now and exin yourself! And apologize to Hadley!”

    “Yes, alright!”

Eric went rigid, every nerve in his body screaming with anxiety. He slid off the bed, sped his hands together nervously in front of him, and shuffled slowly toward Hadley.

He offered a sheepish, guilty grin. “Hadley.”

    Hadley remained utterly confused.

Ernest caught Xander’s eye and gave him a subtle nod. Xander understood immediately. The two men slipped quietly from the room, easing the door shut behind them.

    “Ernest, wait…” Eric’s panic surged.

Hadley stood directly in front of him now, her gaze as cold and cutting as a de.

He desperately wished Ernest had stayed. He was too terrified to face her wrath alone.
