    When Hadley and Colleen stepped out of the beauty salon, they decided to have lunch together. After the meal, the two women went their separate ways and returned to their respective homes.


    Alone in her car, Colleen sat in silence for a while. Then she pulled over, reached for her phone, and searched for Eric’s number. A deep breath escaped her before she finally pressed the call button.


    Across town, Eric’s phone buzzed. His brow furrowed when he saw who was calling.


    He remembered giving Colleen his number back when he first found out she had done so much for Hadley and their little girl during a difficult time in the. That act of kindness had stayed with him, and he’d never forgotten it. He had once told Colleen that if she ever needed help, he would be there without question.


    However, this was the first time she had ever decided to take him up on that offer.


    Was she calling because something had gone wrong? Eric didn’t hesitate. If Colleen needed help, he was ready to give it.


    A rush of thoughts crossed his mind in the blink of an eye. Eric unlocked his phone and answered the call. “Hello, Dr. Hayes.”

    “Mr. Scott,” Colleen said, her tone brisk. “I’d like to see you. Can you spare a moment right now?”


    She knew certain conversations were better handled in person.


    “Right now?”


    Eric checked the time on his wristwatch. There was another appointment lined up for him. Still, he said, “I can make time. Where shall we meet?”


    “At the Scott Group,” Colleen replied without hesitation. “I’m already on the road. I’ll be there soon.”


    “Alright.”


    Once the call ended, Eric wasted no time and dialed Xander’s number. “Xander, step into my office.”


    A few momentster, Xander appeared. “Mr. Scott?”


    “The meeting’s off for now. We’ll let everyone know once the new schedule’s decided.”


    “Got it.”


    “And one more thing,” Eric said. “Tell the reception desk that a Dr. Colleen Hayes will be arriving soon. Make sure she’s taken to the private elevator when she gets here.”


    “Understood,” Xander replied before heading out.


    Meanwhile, Colleen maneuvered through traffic with ease. The drive was smooth, and she reached the Scott Group building in under ten minutes. The receptionist, already informed of her arrival, greeted her warmly and directed her to the private elevator that went straight to the top floor.


    Outside the elevator, a dedicated secretary stood ready, waiting to escort Colleen into Eric’s office.


    “Dr. Hayes, this way please.”


    As the door swung open, Eric rose from his seat, his postureposed yet weing.


    “Dr. Hayes,” he said with a courteous nod, motioning toward the sofa. “Please, make yourselffortable.”


    “Thanks.” Colleen’s lips curved into a faint smile as she took the offered seat.
