Chapter 2880

    Chapter 2880:

“We’ll handle it somehow.” He paused, thinking hard.

“When darkness falls, they’ll have to sleep eventually.”

“What?” Her voice trembled with disbelief.

“If we throw her out at night, will she even survive?”

“What do you suggest then?” he snapped, his re sharp.

    “I’ll handle it!”

The wife faltered, then whispered, “Fine… we’ll do it your way.”

“Good.” He waved her off impatiently.

    “Now finish cooking!”

    “I’m on it.”

    The door creaked open.

On the narrow bed, Joy pressed herself against Locke, her voice shaking as she whispered through her fear, “Locke…”

“Don’t be scared.” Locke gripped Joy’s hand with all the strength he had.

“I’m here with you. No one will hurt you.”

Despite his age, Locke knew what was really going on, and guilt had wrapped around him like chains these past few days. He understood the truth—they had been taken. And it was his fault.

If he hadn’t tried to sneak away, Joy would still be home where her parents could keep her safe.

Instead, both of them were trapped in this ce. Her parents were probably desperate by now, just like his father, who must be searching everywhere for him.

However, out of the two, Joy suffered the most.

All of it was on him.

The only thing left for him to do was keep his promise to protect Joy.

“Feeling hungry?” The woman stepped into the room with a faint smile ying on her lips.

    ???????????? ???? ????????: ??????????????????﹒??????

    She motioned with her hand.

“Come on. It’s time to eat.”

At the perfect moment, Joy’s stomach rumbled loudly. She nced at Locke.

    “Locke… I’m hungry.”

“Then let’s eat.” Locke gave a small nod, taking Joy’s hand as they hopped off the bed and followed the woman out.

A rough wooden table waited for them outside,id out with a few simple dishes.

The meal was nothing fancy, far from the kind of food they had back home, but hunger left them with no choice.

Locke guided Joy to a stool, keeping her fingers wrapped in his as they sat down.

“Dig in.” The woman set the food before each child and dropped a chicken drumstick onto Locke’s te.

    “Eat this,” she added.

Locke didn’t touch his food. His eyes stayed fixed on Joy’s te, expecting to see her get the same.

    But nothing came.

Locke’s face tightened, and he shot the woman a look.

“What about Joy? Why doesn’t she have a drumstick?”

    The woman chuckled gently.
