Chapter 2860:
“If they haven’t found us yet, they won’t give up. It’s just a matter of time. Wait.”
“Alright.” Hadley nodded. Waiting—that was all she could do for now.
She rummaged through her bag, then reached for Eric’s, unzipping it to search through its contents.
“What are you looking for?”
“A towel.”
Eric couldn’t see the wound on his back, where the metal trap had bitten deep into his shoulder de. Blood still seeped through, slow and stubborn.
Hadley didn’t dare tell him.
She found a clean towel, moved behind him, and pressed it gently over the wound. At the very least, it would slow the bleeding.
But it wasn’t enough. Hadley kept searching. They had packed medical essentials—mosquito repellent, even antivenom serum—but no hemostatic agents.
Suddenly, a drop of cold water sshed onto Hadley’s cheek.
She looked up. Rain?
She reached out—yes. It was.
What now?
She wasn’t worried for herself, but Eric’s wound… If the rain soaked it, things could turn dangerous fast. Panic red, and she dug through the bag for an umbre.
There was none.
To save space, they hadn’t packed one. Their waterproof jackets were supposed to be enough.
But Eric’s jacket was torn to shreds.
“It’s fine…” Hadley whispered to herself.
She still had hers.
???????? ???????????????? ???????? g???????ν?????????????
She quickly unfastened the buckles, unzipped it, and shook it open. Scooting closer to Eric, she held it above their heads like a makeshift shelter.
“There. Now we won’t get wet.”
“Hadley…” Eric looked at her, his voice hoarse.
“Put it back on. It’s freezing in the mountains—you’ll catch a chill like that!”
What was she thinking?
She wore only a thin T-shirt beneath it. With her frail frame, how could she endure the cold?
“I’m not putting it on!” Hadley shot him a sharp look, her voice firm.
“Don’t you get it? So what if I catch a cold? Your wound can’t get wet!”
Eric fell silent, startled. After a moment, he tried again.
“I can manage—”
“Manage what?” Her eyes locked onto his.
“Do you think you’re made of steel? Stop worrying about me all the time and think about yourself for once!”
A strange warmth surged in Eric’s chest, a quiet, powerful current that left him still.
“Alright.” His voice was faint, almost automatic.
“Okay, I will.”
“Damn right you will! This isn’t up for debate!” Hadley scolded, her tone unwavering despite his surrender.
