Chapter 2840:
“Tell the truth! Tell me now!”
Under Hadley’s grip, Andrea staggered and crumpled to the floor.
“Officer,” Andrea called coolly, turning to Ellis.
“Are you just going to stand there? Even a suspect like me has rights, don’t I?”
Ellis hesitated, caught off guard for a beat, then stepped forward and gently pulled Hadley back.
“Hadley, try to keep your cool…”
“Keep my cool?” Hadley whirled on him, shaking off his hand with a zing re.
“How can I possibly do that?”
She turned to Eric, clutching his arm as tears streamed down her face.
“Eric… what do we do now? What’s left for us?”
Eric drew her close, his face set with grim resolve as he fixed his gaze on Ellis.
“What’s the next step?”
Ellis nced at Hadley, his brow furrowing.
“Andrea’s story is full of gaps. She’s holding back. She isn’t telling us the whole truth.”
“Exactly,” Eric agreed, his voice steady.
He had sensed it too—Andrea iming she was only a middleman suggested someone else was pulling the strings from the shadows.
“I’ll leave this in your hands,” Eric said, casting a worried nce at Hadley as her strength seemed to waver.
“I’ll take her to rest. Please keep us posted if you uncover anything.”
“Will do,” Ellis replied with a nod.
Eric leaned down, his voice softening into a tender murmur.
“Can you walk, Hadley? Let me support you.”
???????????? ???????? ???? ?????????ν?????????????
“Yes,” Hadley whispered, her body sagging against his, leaning into his steady presence as if it were the only thing holding her together.
Outside, Ernest had already been briefed on the grim details. His eyes flicked to Hadley, then settled on Eric.
“Get her somewhere to rest. I’ll hold the fort here.”
“Understood, Ernest,” Eric replied, his tone resolute.
“Eric…” Hadley shook her head, her heart resisting the idea of stepping away.
“Listen to me,” Eric said, his brow furrowing with gentle insistence.
“You need to recharge. If there’s any news, we’ll have to keep pushing forward—and you’ll need your strength for that.”
Back at the guesthouse, Eric took out some medicine and carefully ced a single pill in Hadley’s hand. He handed her a ss of water.
“Take this and try to get some rest.”
“Eric…” Hadley’s voice faltered, revealing her hesitation.
“There’s nothing to worry about,” Eric said gently, sensing her unease.
“I’ll stay right here. If anythinges up while you’re asleep, I’ll carry you to the car. We’ll leave together.”
Hadley studied him, weighing his words, then gave a slow nod.
“Okay.”
She tilted her head back and swallowed the pill.
