Chapter 1460:
There wasn’t much he could say.
Ferris took the silence as agreement. “Then it’s settled.”
Turning to Hadley, he said, “Hadley, I’d like you to apany Eric that day. Stand by his side, make sure everything goes smoothly. I don’t want any slip-ups.”
Before either of them could respond, a staff member appeared at the entrance. “Sir, Mrs. Scott is awake.”<fnc347> Checktest chapters at FindN0vel</fnc347>
Ferris nodded, already rising to his feet. “I’ll go to her. If you’d like to stay for breakfast, just let them know.”
Upstairs, a concerned voice echoed faintly. “Mrs. Scott, please don’t walk barefoot! You haven’t put on your slippers yet—”
Ferris’ expression shifted as he hurried toward the stairs. “Milly! I’ming. Don’t move around too much! Not without your shoes!”
From the living room, Eric and Hadley exchanged looks.
Neither had the appetite to stay.
As they stepped outside, Eric reached for her hand. Catching the thoughtful look in her eyes, he smiled. “You’re thinking about something.”
Hadley nodded slightly, her brow still furrowed.
“I suppose I am… Your parents— They seem… peaceful with each othertely. Is that new?”
Eric gave a small nod, the corner of his mouth twitching in a half-smile. “Yeah. They’ve been getting along, surprisingly.”
In fact, Eric had noticed this during his recent visits to share meals with his mother.
Then his expression turned pensive. “It feels strange, honestly. They were always fighting like two people trapped in a never-ending battle.”
After everything—the betrayals, the chaos, all those years of bitterness… Somehow, they had now seemed to find a way to get along with each other.

Hadley paused, her brow arching with quiet thought. “Honestly? I don’t think it’s all that surprising.”
Eric nced at her, intrigued. “No? Why not?”
“Because of you.” She said simply. She reached up and ruffled his hair gently, her touch light, affectionate. “You’re the reason they’ve softened. They have you—their son, brilliant and steady. You’ve be something they can finally agree on.”
Eric gave her a look, half-doubtful. “You think I matter that much?”
Hadley smiled faintly. “He has nine children—six sons, three daughters—but only one stands out. You’re the only one with real presence, real promise. If anyone could make him reconsider the past… it’s you.”
Children had a way of tethering hearts, even ones long frayed.
“Maybe,” Eric said quietly, nodding. “They’re both getting older.”
A thought passed over his face, unspoken but heavy. He hesitated. “Hadley… what about us—”
“Let’s eat,” Hadley cut in, patting her stomach. “I’m starving. I wonder if Elissa’s up yet?”
The moment they stepped into the south wing, Hadley headed straight upstairs to the guest room where Elissa was staying.
