?Chapter 1458:
Unlike Eric, Ernest kept hisposure.
He nodded with a faint, resigned smile. “She’s lucky to have you. As for me…” His smile faded. “I’m her nightmare. If I could, I’d go back and make sure she never stepped into my room that night.”
His voice dropped as he recalled what happened.
“So you’re saying…” Hadley frowned but pieced it together. “You were drugged that night?”
“Yes.” Ernest nodded without meeting her eyes. His face was tense, full of regret. “Even so, I failed her. I tried to find her after, but by then… I heard she was already married.”
There was nothing he could’ve done.
If Robin had chosen to let her go after what happened, maybe things would’ve turned out differently.
But life didn’t give them a redo.
Hadley let out a quiet sigh. “I get it. I’ll talk to Elissa when the time feels right, but whether she’s ready to ept it or not… that’s her choice.”
“I understand.” Ernest gave a small nod. “Thank you, Hadley.” He stood up.<fn17e8> Official source is Find[?]ovel</fn17e8>
“It’ste. I’ll head out.” He nced at Eric. “You both should rest.”
“Alright.”
Hadley and Eric stood and walked Ernest to the door. “Good night, Ernest.”
“Go on inside.”
They watched from the doorway until his car disappeared down the drive, then exchanged a look and headed back inside.
Eric slipped an arm around her waist as they walked.
“This is strange…” Hadley muttered, her brows still furrowed even after they returned to the room.

“Why? How could Elissa not remember having a child?”
“I thought that was strange too,” Eric said, nodding.
He shut the bedroom door and pulled her down onto the bed with him.
“Right?” Hadley murmured, still troubled. “Nine months of pregnancy—and giving birth—how could she forget that?”
She held his hand as he pulled the covers over both of them. “Could Ernest be wrong? Wasn’t the room dark that night?”
Eric raised an eyebrow. “Even if it was, what about the paternity test? That can’t be faked.”
“Oh, right.”
The evidence was solid.
Hadley sighed. “Then what really happened?”
“Stop overthinking it…”
Eric pulled her into his arms, resting his face in the crook of her neck. “My head feels a little heavy.”
That quickly pulled her thoughts back to him.
