?Chapter 1456:
Hadley froze, the words sinking in slowly.
She knew fragments of Elissa’s past—the pain tied to her wedding night. Hesitantly, she rified, “You mean… Ernest was the man from your wedding night?”
Elissa nodded, eyes shut tight as tears spilled anew.
Hadley’s heart sank.
Now it all made sense.
She looked down at Elissa with pity.
No wonder she was crying so hard.
If not for Ernest, Elissa might have built a life with the man she loved.
Gently, Hadley brushed back Elissa’s tangled hair. “Come on, Elissa. Let’s sit up…”
Outside, Ernest and Eric stood like sentinels on either side of the door.
Ernest’s anxiety was palpable; Eric offered only silent solidarity.
The door creaked open. Hadley emerged, supporting Elissa, whose face was still etched with grief.
“Elissa.”
“Hadley.”<fn368f> Newest update provided by FιndNovel</fn368f>
The two men immediately stepped forward to meet them.
Ernest looked at Elissa, longing in his eyes. But she leaned into Hadley and turned her face away, refusing to meet his gaze.
“Ernest.” Hadley nodded at him. “I’m worried about Elissa. I want to take her back to Olisvale Bay with me.”
“Of course.”
He agreed immediately. Seeing her like this, he was just as concerned. If anything else happened to her, he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself.
He gave Hadley a grateful look. “Thank you.”
“It’s nothing.” She shook her head gently and then turned to Eric with a questioning nce. “Can I make the call on this?”
“Of course,” Eric said without hesitation. “You’re in charge of the house, after all.”
Still, a flicker of concern crossed his face.
If Hadley brought Elissa back with her… would they be sharing a room? What about him then?
“I’ll take care of the arrangements, then.”
Hadley noticed the subtle shift in Eric’s expression. He clearly wasn’t thrilled.
But she didn’t care. No matter what, she was bringing Elissa home tonight. “Elissa, let’s go.”
Without ncing at the men, Hadley gently took Elissa’s arm and led her toward the elevator. Eric and Ernest followed silently behind.
The elevator hadn’t arrived yet.
While they waited, Hadley pulled out her phone and made a call.
She was on the phone with the servant. “It’s me. Can you prep a guest room now? We’ll be back soon. Yes… thank you.”
