Chapter 1370:
Hearing Addy’s frail voice, Elissa froze, her tears falling freely.
Then it hit her.
He was asking if she’d been okay.
After all these years, that was what he wanted to know first when he finally saw her again.
“Oh, Grandpa…” Her shoulders shook as tears spilled freely. She nodded hard, her voice breaking. “I’m pretty good.”
Relief eased across Addy’s face. The tension melted from his brow, and a tired smile lifted the corners of his mouth.
“Good…” he murmured, drifting deeper into the pillows, his hand still loosely curled around hers.
Then, with slow effort, his gaze shifted to the man standing quietly nearby.
His eyes narrowed slightly in puzzlement. “Is that… your husband?”
Elissa stood frozen, her heart skipping a beat. She hadn’t seen thising. Was her grandfather’s mind clouded by age? Or had the years blurred his memory of Robin’s face? It seemed he had mistaken Ernest for her husband.
Since their wedding, Robin had never joined her on visits to her family’s home. Given her grandfather’s advanced years, apse in recollection was forgivable.
Elissa cast an apologetic nce at Ernest, ready to rify the mix-up. “Grandpa, it’s…”
But Addy, undeterred, extended a trembling hand toward Ernest, his voice soft yet certain. “Come…”
Ernest felt a rush of surprise, tempered by a warm glow in his chest. He understood Addy’s error, mistaking him for Robin. And, truth be told, he didn’t mind ying Elissa’s husband.
With a raised brow and Elissa’s astonished gaze upon him, Ernest stepped forward, gently sping Addy’s trembling hand. “It’s me,” he said warmly. “I’vee with Elissa to see you.”
“Are… you well?” Addy’s question carried a subtle shift in meaning, his aged eyes searching Ernest’s face.
Ernest’s lips curved into a gentle smile. “No need to worry. Elissa and I are doing fine. We’ll make time to visit you often.”

Addy’s weathered eyes, once dulled by time, now sparkled with joy. Grasping both their hands, he joined them together, his voice a soft murmur. “Good… very good…”
“Grandpa!” Elissa’s heart swelled, tears spilling down her cheeks as she felt the depth of her grandfather’s love and her own pang of regret. Sobbing, she whispered, “I’m sorry, Grandpa… I was wrong.”
For too long, she had kept her distance, avoiding her grandfather to sidestep her own difort.
As Ernest had gently reminded her, her grandfather loved her deeply and would never judge her.
“Grandpa…” Elissa sank to her knees beside the bed, ovee with emotion.
Addy’s eyes glistened with unshed tears as he rested a frail hand on her head.
“It’s… alright,” he soothed.
“Grandpa,” Elissa choked out, her words lost in sobs.
Outside the hospital room, Ernest offered Elissa a tissue. “Here.”
“Thank you…” Elissa dabbed at her tears, then met his gaze with a shy smile.
