Chapter 1244

    ?Chapter 1244:

Regaining herposure, she let out a scornfulugh. “Yes! Denver doesn’t want me anymore! I’m so devastated that it made me ill! But that’s my burden to bear. Why should it concern you?” At her words, Eric felt as if a dagger had pierced his heart.

Hadley’s revtion was clear; Denver’s actions had indeed taken a toll on her health.

Caught up in a wave of emotion, Eric reached out and grasped her arm, his voice quivering. “He doesn’t care about you. You need to move on!”

Hadley looked down at his hand on her arm, her expression chilling further.

Her eyes narrowed sharply. “Move on to whom? To you? Are you serious?”

Taken aback, Eric’s expression froze, his throat visibly tensing. Hadley’s tone was mocking. “Remember your words? You promised not to bother me ever again.”

Eric flinched, his confusion evident. He nodded, the weight of his own words bearing down on him. “Yes, I remember. I said that.”

    “Then please…”

“I tried…” Eric cut in, his gaze lifting suddenly, eyes alight with a desperate intensity. “But I find that I can’t stay away.”

Hearing what he said, Hadley was stunned into silence by his confession.

Eric responded with a self-deprecating chuckle, his voice low. “If things between you and Denver were fine, I could’ve held myself back. But you’re both over now! Maybe this is fate giving me a sign, Hadley…”

“Enough!” Hadley cut him off sharply. “When you say these things, do you ever consider your girlfriend?”

Eric froze, momentarily confused. His girlfriend? Who?

As Hadley struggled with a bout of coughing, clutching at her chest, she threw another question at him. “Does Linda know you’re here, trying to win me back?”

    Linda?

Eric’s mind raced. Did Hadley mean to say Linda was his girlfriend?

    “Hadley, what are you even—”

Hadley’s expression turned icy, her voice dripping with disdain. “I really can’t figure you out. When you were with me, you couldn’t let go of her. Now that you’ve got what you’ve always wanted and are with her, why can’t you focus on her? Whye back to me? Eric, do you havemitment issues or what?”

After speaking for a while, Hadley doubled over with a violent coughing fit, as if her lungs might give out.

Eric stood by helplessly, a sympathetic ache blooming in his chest. He reached out and gently patted her back, waiting for the storm to pass.

“Hadley, Linda and I… we’re not together. There’s nothing between us.”

“Nothing?” Hadley arched a brow and scoffed. “Funny, that’s not what she told me. She said you two had even moved in together.”

Eric’s face fell in disbelief. “No, we don’t! That’s not true!”

“She told me herself.” Hadley folded her arms, her expression cold. “Between the two of you, who should I believe? Men lie far too easily. I’m more inclined to believe her.”

“I swear, it’s not true!” Eric began pacing, his voice rising. “I don’t know why she said that, but it’s a lie!”

Hadley narrowed her eyes. “I still don’t believe you.”

Eric paused, desperate. “Then what would convince you? Should I call Phillips? Or the housekeeper? We have security footage—”
