Chapter 1139

    ?Chapter 1139:

“That’s his choice,” she said quietly. “But I n to repay him anyway. I don’t understand why he’s done so much for me. It keeps me… ufortable. If I settle the debt sooner, I’ll sleep easier.”

Hadley paused, sensing the finality in Elissa’s words, and chose not to argue further, though she remained concerned about the challenges of Elissa’s divorce.

“Don’t worry about me,” Elissa reassured her with a smile. “Robin and I have been as much apart as we were together. Even if our marriage hasn’t faced any severe issues like his infidelity or abuse, it shouldn’t be difficult to dissolve.”

The prolonged separation had effectively severed whatever bonds remained in their marriage, leaving behind mere formalities rather than any real connection. The dy in seeking a divorce stemmed solely from her lingering hope for change.

“You’re right,” Hadley agreed, assisting Elissa with her belongings.

“I’m afraid I’m imposing on you again.” Elissa had let go of her Redmarsh apartment long ago. Post-discharge, she nned to stay temporarily with Hadley until she found her own ce.

“It’s no trouble at all,” Hadley responded with a yful scowl. “You don’t have to be so formal with me!”

Elissa was among the few friends Hadley cherished in Srixby. Her support had been invaluable when Hadley first returned to the city. Laughing, Elissa replied, “A bit of politeness doesn’t hurt. It keeps things from getting awkward, doesn’t it?”

That same day, Eric was by Linda’s side at the hospital for a routine check-up. However, the news was disheartening. Despite the ongoing treatment, there was no improvement in Linda’s leg condition. The doctor kept things vague. “We’ll try another method and see how it goes.”

In reality, they all knew. The longer the healing dragged on, the lower the odds of a full recovery became.

As they left the consultation room, Linda’s demeanor was somber, herplexion pale, and she said nothing. Eric, burdened by worry and guilt, felt the weight of the situation but made a point of not letting it show.

“Linda.” He leaned down to meet her eyes, speaking softly. “The doctor emphasized patience. It’s important to stay hopeful and positive about your recovery.”

“Really?” A faint smile touched Linda’s lips. “Do you really think my legs will heal? That I’ll stand on my own again someday?”

    “Absolutely.”

Her eyes, bright with a mix of hope and tears, met his. “And will you stay with me through all this?”

    “I will.” Eric nodded firmly.

He couldn’t bring himself to say anything else. The truth was, she had gotten hurt because of him. That alone made walking away impossible. Secondly, having separated from Ernest and moved out of the Flynn Mansion, Linda now relied heavily on Eric as her primary support system.

“I’ll trust your judgment,” Linda responded, her voiceden with emotion. “I’m grateful to still have you by my side.”

As Eric pushed her wheelchair toward the exit, he attempted to inject some lightness into the somber mood. “Is there anything in particr you’d like to eat tonight?”

After a moment’s consideration, Linda suggested, “It’s been a while since we’ve eaten out. What about Winterley Restaurant?”

“That sounds great,” Eric agreed without hesitation. “Let’s head to Winterley Restaurant.”

Meanwhile, that same evening, Hadley organized a dinner at Winterley Restaurant to show her gratitude to Brady and Denver following the misunderstandings caused by Astrid’s baseless ims. She invited Melba, Joy, and Elissa as well, making it a big gathering.
