Chapter 1006

    ?Chapter 1006:

“Yes.” Hadley nodded. She nced at A. “I’ll go get ready.”

“Go ahead! I’ll grab you a coffee!” A called after her.

After leaving the set, Eric received a call from Quentin.

“Mr. Flynn, Miss Harris is awake. She’s been transferred out of ICU and into a regr ward. Would you like toe by?”

“I’m on my way,” Eric replied.

He and Ernest had temporarily swapped responsibilities—Eric was on leave, and Ernest was managing thepany. And since Linda’s injuries had been caused by Eric, it made sense Quentin would contact him.

By the time Eric arrived at the hospital, Linda was settled in her room. Though awake, her movements were limited due to multiple injuries. Shey in bed wearing a neck brace, her pale face marred by light abrasions.

When she saw Eric enter, she smiled and made an effort to sit up.

“Don’t move.” Eric stepped forward quickly, cing a hand on her shoulder. “You need to stay still.”

“Okay…” Linda winced, her movements stiff. “I just forgot for a moment when I saw you.”

Eric’s gaze darkened with guilt. “I’m sorry. You were hurt because of me…”

“Don’t say that!” Linda shook her head. “None of this is your fault. Has there been any progress in the investigation? Do we know who did it?”

Eric gave a brief nod. “Yes.”

Linda hesitated, and then guessed, “Was it the Scott family?”

    “It was.”

She had always known the dangers tied to Eric’s background. His confirmation didn’t surprise her.

Still, Eric kept the details to himself. “Don’t worry about that. Just focus on healing.”

    Linda nodded. “I understand.”

Right now, in her condition, asking questions would aplish nothing. Besides, if the Scott family was involved, it was something only Eric and Ernest could handle.

Her eyes shifted to the door, hope flickering. “Where’s Ernest? Didn’t hee?”

Eric hesitated for a moment, and then exined, “He’s in a meeting at thepany. An important one. Quentin only contacted me. He doesn’t know you’ve woken up yet—but he’ll be here once he finds out.”

Linda’s tense expression softened. “That makes sense.”

She knew Ernest well. Despite their breakup, a bond forged over more than a decade couldn’t be so easily erased.

After the meeting, Ernest exited the conference room and immediately spotted Quentin waiting for him.

    “All set?” he asked.

Quentin hesitated for a second, then nodded. “Yes.”

“Good.” Ernest trusted Quentin’s loyalty but still preferred personal confirmation.

Checking his watch, he reached for his coat. “You don’t need toe with me tonight—”

“Mr. Flynn,” Quentin cut in, his voice hesitant, “Miss Harris has woken up.”

Ernest froze. His hand hovered mid-air for a beat before he masked the surprise and straightened. “I’ll go see her first.”

When he arrived at the hospital, Linda was already asleep. The doctor had given her painkillers to ease the lingering pain, and they’d knocked her out.

“Should we wake her?” a nurse asked quietly.

Ernest nced at her and shook his head. “No need.”
