Chapter 390

    ?Chapter 390:

The moment it jerked to a stop, Hadley flung the door open and jumped out.

    “Hadley!”

Cursing under his breath, Eric scrambled after her.

She had just been crying, and now she was storming off like she didn’t care what happened next. What if—

Whether it was sheer bad luck or some cruel twist of fate, the moment Hadley stepped out, a car came barreling toward her.

    “Hadley!”

Eric’s breath caught. His body moved before his mind could catch up. He lunged, gripping her shoulders and yanking her back—hard. They stumbled, his arm locking around her as they mmed against the side of the car.

One hand cradled the back of her head. The other shielded her as the speeding car tore past.

Behind them, the car rushed by.

The driver stuck his head out, his voice sharp with anger. “Trying to throw your life away? Leave everyone else out of it! Damn!”

Hadley, still shaken, lifted her head. Eric’s eyes burned with a mix of anger and disbelief, his grip firm, as if afraid she’d slip away again.

    “Are you insane?”

His face was pale, his voice raw with frustration. “So, because you can’t have Denver, you’re throwing yourself into traffic? Then why leave him at all? Where’s that stubbornness—the way you refused to let go of me? Where is it now?”

    g?????0ν??????.??????, ?????????? ???????????????? ????

Hadley’s expression hardened, her gaze cutting through him like ice.

“You really don’t know why I walked away?” Her voice was eerily calm, but the weight behind it was undeniable. “You honestly don’t get it?”

Was Hadley’s frustration unfairly directed at Eric now?

“What does this have to do with me—”

On the brink of anger, Eric was almost ready to explode—was he really to me for keeping her and Denver apart? But as he opened his mouth to retort, Hadley’s piercing gaze stopped him.

    Indeed, he was to me.

He was the root cause of all her suffering!

“Humph.” With a cold sneer, Hadley used him. “It was you!”

Her thoughts then turned to the painful four years spent in the—and to Joy, her beloved child. Overwhelmed by her feelings, she grasped his tie fiercely.

“Why are you so heartless? Why can’t you release me even after our divorce?” Their failed marriage had likely doomed her chances of ever finding love again.

    At first, that seemed okay.

Love wasn’t necessary for her. As long as she had Joy, she felt she could cope.

But then, Denver came into her life…

He didn’t mind her past or that she was an orphan. He had made significant efforts to reintegrate her into the dance troupe…

For the first time, someone truly valued her—and yet she had wronged him!
