Chapter 235

    ?Chapter 235:

“You can hold your tongue,” N quipped, brushing him off with a flick of her wrist. “Can’t you see I’m in the midst of a conversation with Denver?”

Denver let out a soft chuckle, rising to his feet with an air of purpose.

“I ought to take my leave. There are matters awaiting my attention.”

“Very well,” N replied, seeing no need to detain him further. They had made remarkable strides today, after all. “Do convey my gratitude to your mother, and take care on your journey home.”

    “I shall.”

Denver assured her, his step buoyant as he departed, a quiet tion evident in his demeanor.

And N? Her heart glowed with equal delight.

She turned her attention to Eric, who lingered in the room like a storm cloud. “Go eat your breakfast. What are you loitering about for?”

“Grandma,” Eric muttered, his appetite having vanished entirely.

His brows knitted together so fiercely they might have fused. “You shouldn’t meddle in matchmaking. They’re ill-matched, in and simple.”

“And pray tell, why not?” N halted, her gaze sharpening as it pinned Eric in ce. “Don’t you dare suggest Hadley isn’t worthy of Denver. I’ll not hear such nonsense.”

Eric let out a biting, sardonicugh, the sound dripping with irony.

“Grandma, it’s quite the opposite—Hadley deserves far better.”

N paused abruptly. “What exactly do you mean by ‘far better’?” She scrutinized her grandson, narrowing her eyes. “Are you suggesting… you’ve found a more suitable match for Hadley? When did you be so involved in Hadley’s affairs?”

Seemingly reaching a resolution, N gave a decisive nod. “Alright, if you believe there’s someone more suitable than Denver, I’m all ears. Convince me.”

“Grandma…” A slight twitch marked Eric’s temple. It was rare for him to waver, yet he couldn’t help feeling slightly embarrassed.

However, the stakes were high, and retreating wasn’t in his ns. Giving in now would mean letting Hadley go to someone else, something he wouldn’t allow to happen.

He straightened his shoulders and met N’s gaze. “What about me?”

N fixed a long, searching look on him, her expression unreadable, as though she was seeing him for the first time.

Time seemed to drag before she finally blinked and whispered, “Oh dear… I must be growing senile. Have I lost my senses?” How else could she make sense of hearing something so absurd? She turned to leave, calling out to the housekeeper, “Kira! Where’s my medicine? I think I’m hearing things. I need my pills…”

“Grandma.” Ericughed softly and caught her arm. “At least consider my proposal.”

“NO!” N turned around sharply, dismissing his idea outright.

“Why not?” Eric looked genuinely puzzled. “Haven’t you always hoped we’d end up together?”

Hadn’t N been the one to first suggest Eric and Hadley would make a good match?

“Do you really need to ask me why?” N sighed, her disappointment evident as she shook her head. “Eric, this isn’t the time for games.”

    “Games?”
