Chapter 215

    ?Chapter 215:

Her gaze lingered on Hadley, filled with tender concern.

“Hadley, my only concern is for your happiness. I believe Denver could be a suitable partner. Hees from a respectable background, but what truly matters is whether you feel any affection for him…”

    “N!”

Hadley’s reaction was one of shock, herplexion draining of color. She vigorously shook her head.

“Please, don’t make light of this. How could something like that ever happen?” Hadley and Denver together? The very idea seemed impossible to her—it wouldn’t be fair to him, a man with such promise!

“Why would you think I’m making this up?” N’s expression turned serious. “I take your future very seriously. Believe me, I’m considering what’s best for you.”

“N…” Words failed Hadley. The idea seemed utterly preposterous.

“I understand,” N said, gesturing dismissively. “You feel you’re not worthy of him, don’t you, Hadley?”

“That was the truth,” Hadley thought, but kept the words to herself.

    Yet N seemed unfazed.

“Don’t fret. Your own feelings are all that matter. Remember, you are a Flynn. Who could possibly dismiss that? Hadley…” Moisture gathered in N’s eyes as her voice trembled. “We’ve failed you in some ways. I yearn to see you married well, so I might find some peace.”

    “N…” Ovee, Hadley whispered, “I don’t need…”

“Why do you think you don’t need it?”

Cutting her off, N continued, “Eric told me about yourst attempt to manage on your own, and it didn’t end well. I me myself for not intervening. This time, I’m going to make sure we find the right man for you.”

Hadley found herself rooted to the spot. She was at a loss for words.

If N was determined to believe something would happen with Denver, then let her think so. Hadley, however, was convinced they could never be anything beyond mere acquaintances.

“It’s decided then. I just wanted to ease your mind,” N said, standing up from her chair. “The night has grownte. I’m off to my room.”

“Allow me to assist you upstairs,” Hadley offered, rising and extending her arm to N.

Just then, Eric entered with a tray in hand, holding a bowl of soup.

“What took you so long just to fetch a bowl of soup?” Hadley asked.

N released Hadley’s arm and shot Eric a sharp look. “Hadley, I’ll manage on my own. You should stay and enjoy your soup.”

    “Okay, then.”

    “Good girl.”

With a smile, N turned and began ascending the stairs.

Eric ced the tray on the table, carefully avoiding eye contact with Hadley.

    “Go ahead,” he said.

    “Sure.”
