Chapter 161

    ?Chapter 161:

Did they seriously think she was here selling herself?

Her stomach twisted in disbelief. “That’s ridiculous! I haven’t done anything!”

“You don’t get to decide that,” the officer stated tly. “Take her away.”

“No!” Panic surged through Hadley. “Bring a female officer! Escort her out!”

    “On it.”

The club manager paced anxiously outside, his nerves on edge.

“What’s happening here? There has to be some kind of mistake! Our establishment doesn’t allow that kind of business, and she isn’t even one of our members. Officer, whatever she’s involved in, it has nothing to do with us!”

The manager was frantic, his pulse racing as he inwardly cursed whoever had stirred up this mess and put his club under the spotlight.

And really, who else could it be?

Of course, it was Eric. When the receptionist had refused to let him dig around, he had gone straight to the cops.

Hadley’s gaze shot to Eric. It was him, no doubt about it! Was she his target? And if so, why?

Did he really believe this would rattle her?

She had nothing to be afraid of. Let them drag her to the station if they wanted. She had no secrets and could face whatever came her way.

    “Hold on!”

Eric’s voice broke through the tension as he marched toward her. When he reached her, he leaned in close, his breath brushing against her ear.

“Tell me the truth, and I’ll make sure they let you go.”

Hadley cast a fleeting nce at Eric before lowering her head with a faint smile. “No need. I’ll tell the police whatever they need to know.” She was curious to see if Eric truly believed he could dictate every turn of her fate.

Eric hadn’t expected her to dig in her heels like this. Was it really so impossible for her to just talk to him and clear things up?

Trapped between frustration and disbelief, Eric let out a cold, sharpugh. “Fine, perfect! Let’s get moving then!”

Did she think he relished interfering in her affairs? If he kept sticking his nose in, he might as well be a fool.

    “Let’s go!”

Hadley turned and followed the policewoman out.

A momentter, a loud crash echoed behind her. She froze for a heartbeat. Eric had overturned the coffee table in a fit of rage. The roomy in ruins.

    At the police station.

    “Officer, I’ve exined everything clearly.”

She had been repeating herself like a scratched record, yet the officers remained unimpressed.

“You im you are innocent, so why were you there?” Hadley opened her mouth, but then shut it again. She had been alone in that room, just as she had already said.

“Your story is full of holes, Miss Pearson. You need to tell us the truth.”

Hadley fell silent, the pressure pressing down on her like a boulder.

“Any witnesses? Friends? Family? Someone who can vouch for you?”

    This…

Her mind went nk. She had no one.
