The Silent 548

    548.Chapter 548

"Such heavy snow... this is buried too thickly," Eliza remarked, frowning.

The ck g soldiers, who had approached to investigate, thrust their long spears into the snow, only for them to sink halfway.

"The snow here is so deep, it might even reach our waists. Riding a horse might still be possible, but the supply wagons and the heavy loads won''t make it through," one of the soldiers reported gravely.

After inspecting the situation, the ck g soldiers returned to report to Nn, "People can pass, but the supply wagons can''t."

Nn nced at the road ahead and, realizing the situation, came up with a n.

"Order the rear guard to catch up. The supply wagons will stop a mile away, and 500 soldiers will guard them. The rest will split into two groups, alternating. We must clear the snow on this road enough for the wagons to pass by tomorrow at sunrise," Nnmanded.

    "Yes, sir."

Thankfully, Nn had brought arge number of soldiers with him.

With a full army of 10,000 ck g soldiers, clearing this stretch of road in one night was far from impossible.

However, despite the numbers, neither Eliza nor Nn looked rxed.

Especially Nn. After giving his orders, he immediately stepped forward, ready to shovel the snow himself.

When Nn took the lead, the rest of the ck g soldiers immediately followed suit without hesitation.

They trusted himpletely, for he was the battle king who led them to victory in every fight and conquered every disaster they faced.

Eliza, moved by their resolve, gently touched her chest.

It was clear to her now that she couldn''t just stand by; she had to contribute in some way.

Even though Nn had told her not to join the snow-shoveling, Eliza knew she had her own methods.

After all, her pocket farm wasn''t just for storing people.

Pretending to return to the carriage, Eliza quickly slipped behind it. As Nn and the others focused on clearing the snow, she quietly jumped into the snow by the roadside, avoiding the soldiers'' gaze.

The snow reached Nn and the others'' waists, but for Eliza, it was up to her chest.

All she had to do was squat down, and no one could see her hidden in the snow.

Hidden beneath the snow, Eliza used the power of her pocket farm to quickly carve out a path underneath. This path bypassed Nn and the ck g soldiers clearing the snow and extended 300 feet ahead to the main road.

Once she was sure it was clear, Eliza began swiftly packing the snow from the road into her pocket farm.

Within moments, she had cleared a wide, empty road behind her.

When Nn and the ck g soldiers reached the end of the 300 feet of snow they had cleared, they found a hollow

    spot.

Noticing something was off, Nn cleared the remaining snow and uncovered a clean stretch of road, with only melted snowwater flowing on the ground.

    "What is this?" Nn asked.

    "Where did the snow go?"

"No way. Did the snow decide to skip this part of the road? Was the weather in Woteria that selective?"

Hearing the soldiers'' chatter behind him, Nn furrowed his brow and said, "This stretch has no cover, so it shouldn''t be clear of snow. Based on the tracks on the ground, someone else must have been doing the same thing we were."

The tracks on the ground, clearly human, were unmistakable.

But what was strange was that there wasn''t just one set of footprints-by the size, they seemed to belong to a woman.

Nn studied the footprints for a moment befc

oming and quickly walking down the mountain. Sessfully unlocked!

As he moved, he ordered, "The vanguard should

    "Yes, sir."

    now left, clear it immediately."

After Nn left, the ck g soldiers followed his orders without hesitation.

When Nn reached the foot of the mountain, he scanned the surroundings- there was no one.

His gaze then fell on the carriage, and he walked briskly towards it.

Just as he was about to pull back the curtain, Nn stopped abruptly, his hand retracting as he stood stiff and called,"

    Serenity?"

There was a brief silence from inside the carriage. Just as Nn was about to call again, Eliza''s voice answered, ''I''m here.

The three simple words brought immediate relief to Nn''s heart.

For a moment, he hadn''t sensed Eliza''s presence.

He had feared something had happened, but now, hearing her voice, he realized she was fine.

"What happened? Why did you suddenly return to the carriage? Was it too cold?" Nn asked, concerned.

During their journey, Eliza had been riding alongside Nn, only returning to the carriage for rest or a change of clothes. So, Nn was puzzled. He was worried that Eliza might be unwell and was about to call for a doctor

Nn had brought several doctors along on this relief mission.

One reason was in case Wotería''s doctors were insufficient; another was to ensure that if the ck g soldiers encountered trouble, they could handle it. And most importantly, if Eliza fell ill, there were doctors avable to help. Just then, the carriage''s curtain was suddenly pulled open, and Eliza climbed out. She quickly adjusted her clothes and, with a sheepish look, said to Nn, "It''s nothing. I''m not sick. I just slipped on the side of the road earlier and got my clothes wet, so I came back to change."

Nn noticed that she had indeed changed her clothes.

If it were anyone else, they might have bought Eliza''s excuse.

But Nn wasn''t so easily fooled.

If she had just changed clothes, why had her presence seemed to disappear earlier?

It was as though... Serenity wasn''t even in the carriage before.

Eliza, suddenly feeling guilty, couldn''t meet his gaze. She feared Nn might detect something unusual.

After all, the time was short, and she had rushed back, leaving many traces behind.

Normally, no one would have noticed, but Nn was different.

Nn''s perceptiveness was unmatched-otherwise, how could he have been undefeated on the battlefield?

Realizing this, Eliza quickly changed the subject, "By the way, have they cleared all the snow on the mountain? Why did youe back so soon? Is there something you need my help with?"

As she spoke, she started to walk toward the mountain, but Nn immediately stopped her. "No, we haven''t finished yet. The snow has just been cleared, and

the path is still slippery and steep. It''s better if you wait here. We''ll be done soon,"

    he

    said.

Nn''s concern and care had momentarily distracted him, and he did what he believed was best.

However, what Eliza didn''t notice was that as she left, Nn''s gaze lingered on

her feet for a brief moment.
