The Silent 417

    417.Chapter 417

Gabriel snatched the wooden box from Matthew''s hands and mmed it onto the deck with a loud bang. Pointing at the pill inside, he roared, "You idiot! Do you have any idea what would happen if this thing caught fire? All three of us would be doomed. None of us would make it out alive!"

Matthew froze in shock, his face pale as he instinctively stepped back several paces.

When his gaze fell on the pill again, a chill ran down his spine. The thought of what could have happened made his heart

    face.

If his father hadn''t intervened in time, he would''ve caused a disaster beyond imagination

Even though Matthew was drenched in cold sweat, he couldn''t help but grit his teeth in frustration. "Who the hell made this thing? It''s disgusting and downright sinister

Gabriel''s voice was sharp andmanding. "Stop worrying about who made it. That''s not your concern. Just remember my warning, stay for away from this filth, and from anyone who''s been tainted by it. Do you understand?"

Faced with their father''s fury, both Sophie and Matthew nodded quickly, "We understand, Father."

Matthew winced at the thought of his wasted fifty gold coins. All that money was gone, and it didn''t even help Benedict. Now he was even getting scolded because of it.

"Father, then... what about Benedict''s poison? What should we do now?" Matthew asked hesitantly, his voice barely above a whisper

Gabriel sneered. "Now you care about your brother? Where was this concern earlier?"

Matthew''s face burned with embarrassment, and he couldn''t find the words to respond.

Sophie nced at Matthew before stepping forward, her tone soft and cating. "Father, Matthew and I really know we messed up this time. We''ll ept whatever punishment you give us. But please don''t let this ruin your health. Let''s talk calmly, alright?"

Sophie had noticed that while Gabriel was still angry, his fury had clearly subsidedpared to before.

It was only because of this that she dared to speak up.

Gabriel cast her a faint nce. "If you really cared about me, you''d stop causing trouble. It''s always the same. I don''t have the time to keep cleaning up your messes."

"But... we''re just kids, Father..." Sophie muttered, her voice soft and hesitant

Gabriel let out a coldugh. "Kids? You''re both in your twenties! Other families'' daughters are already married, and their sons have careers. But you two? Always causing trouble, never aplishing anything worthwhile!"

Matthew''s expression instantly hardened, his face growing colder, Gabriel, too caught up in his anger, didn''t notice.

Gabriel was so frustrated that he lost hisposure.

It wasn''t until after he finished speaking that he realized he''d brought up

something he shouldn''t have. He nced sideways at Matthew, noticing he had gone quiet. A pang of guilt flickered in Gabriels heart.

His gaze shifted briefly, but he quickly turned away and said in a cold voice, "Enough. Matthew, take your sister and go find Dn. If you fail toplete the

task I''ve assigned, don''t bothering back to the Duke''s estate."

After all, it was a punishment he''d already decided on, and Gabriel had no intention of changing it.

He addedm "If you seed this time, I''ll send someone to bring you back. And as for the herb fields, I''ll leave them in your hands. How far you can take it will depend on your own abilities."

With Anthony unable to manage the vast herb fields due to his leg injury, Gabriel figured it would be a good opportunity for Matthew and Sophie to assist him once they returned

Sophie, who had previously dismissed the idea of managing the herb fields, had since changed her tune. Ever since her father had restricted her ess to money, she''d been eager to take over the fields.

Sophie thought, "Managing the herb fields? Perfect! I can pocket plenty of money that way. It''s all family money anyway. Who''s going to stop me?

"And it would give me the perfect excuse to de Sessful

    Sessfully unlocked!

''Once the herbs matured, it would be the perfec.

iew scores with that little wretch, Eliza!
