The Silent 300

    300.Chapter 300

    300.Chapter 300

Gabriel was forced to pay the magistrate''s office a hefty sum because Sophie was dragged into this mess, even though he initially wanted to stay out of it. "That scoundrel! What could he have stolen to warrant such an outrageous fine?" Gabriel eximed, incredulous and frustrated.

The magistrate''s look was soplicated that Gabriel''s heart sank; he instantly knew something was wrong.

The magistrate immediately said, "Roger Stevenson, hired by your youngest daughter to manage the Oriphoenix Building, was fired after the building was sold due to his history of theft. He refused to leave, iming ties to the Duke''s estate. While the new owner was away, he stole jewelry from the building and was caught red-handed."

Upon hearing the name "Oriphoenix Building," Gabriel instinctively took a deep breath topose himself. He knew without asking that the owner had to be Eliza.

He realized that Eliza now hadplete control over Scecrest Manor and the Oriphoenix Building, leaving her no option to relinquish them. His suspicions grew stronger, and he thought, ''It must have been Eliza who exposed Roger''s misdeeds today.''

Fighting back his frustration, Gabriel silently handed over the money and took Roger away. Roger was right about one thing: . once Gabriel caught him, there was no escape.

A man, brought in by Sophie, had pretended to be a distant rtive of the Duke''s estate, ultimately swindling Gabriel out of a fortune. With such a litany of offenses against him, Gabriel feltpletely justified in ending Roger''s life.

Gabriel carried out his order for execution. The shadow guards were efficient and discreet, leaving little evidence behind. That evening, Gabriel presented Roger''s severed head to Sophie. The sight of the bloodied head drained the color from Sophie''s face, and her joyful anticipation dissolved into a piercing scream.

"Father, what are you doing?" she cried. "Whose head is that? Get it away from me, get it away!" She still hadn''t recognized the face.

Gabriel thrust the head towards Sophie, forcing her to study it. "Look closely," he demanded. “Do you recognize him?" Overwhelmed with fear, Sophie could barely see the face before her. She shook her head desperately. "I don''t know him! I don''t know him!" she cried. "Father, please take it away-I don''t know him!"

Gabriel sneered coldly. "You im not to know him, yet suddenly he''s a ''distant rtive'' of the Duke''s estate?" "A distant rtive?" Sophie trembled, her mind reeling at the thought.

Gabriel''s voice turned cold. "Roger Stevenson from the Oriphoenix building-you introduced him as a distant rtive, didn''t you? If I hadn''t gone to the House of Imperial Justice today, I wouldn''t have known the Duke''s estate had suddenly acquired such a disgraceful ''rtive"."

"Roger Stevenson? The manager?" Only then did Sophie remember.

She had previously imed that Roger should use her influence-technically, the Duke''s estate''s influence, but hers in all but name-to torment Eliza''s former employees. After all, there could be no harm in it.

Sophie saw Gabriel''s stern face and hesitated before asking, "Father, what did Roger do to make you so angry?" Sophie wondered why else his head would have been brought back.

Gabriel red at her, sneering, "He was a criminal! And now you''re following in his footsteps? What''s your n? To take over the Oriphoenix Building?"

Sophie turned pale and pleaded, "Father, please don''t be angry. I didn''t know Roger was a scoundrel; I would have gotten rid of him sooner. The Oriphoenix building isn''t even mine! I already have you, Matthew, and Anthony''s support; why would I care about a small shop?"

She expected her words to soothe Gabriel, but they unexpectedly inmed his anger. “You should dismiss such thoughts." Gabriel warned, "The Duke''s estate is recovering. I won''t be so lenient if you or your brothers dare to damage its reputation again!"

Gabriel didn''t mention Benedict. His eldest was always soposed that, unlike

his three troublesome siblings, he rarely needed Gabriel''s attention.

A knock sounded at the door, causing Gabriel to frown slightly and nce at Sophie.

    "Who''s there?" Sophie asked.

    Sessfully unlocked!

A voice from outside asked slowly, "Sophie, I just saw father aushing this

y, looking angry. Did something happen?"

Just as Sophie was about to reply, Gabriel opened the door, and Anthony froze. He''d been right-Gabriel was here.

The sharp smell of blood stopped Anthony in his tracks as it wafted from the

room. ''Blood?'' he thought, fear gripping him. " Father! What have you done to Sophie?" he roared, rushing into the room in a panic.
