289 Chapter 289
289.Chapter 289
Soon after, Dn was brought before Nn.
Nn looked at the unconscious figure on the ground and gave Ross a cold nce. "I told you to bring him here, not knock him out first."
Ross, looking innocent, quickly exined, "It wasn''t my intention, Nn. I tried to bring him directly, but as soon as Lord Dn saw us, he thought we were with those chasing him. He struggled nonstop, and I had no choice but to subdue him."
Nn sighed, his frustration momentarily fading. He had initially intended to ask a few questions, but seeing Dn lying there, Nn decided against it.
"Take him to rest, then send a message to Your Grace."
"Yes, Nn."
It was a simple task. Ross quickly took care of it and returned, bringing with him a message from Eliza.
Nn, this is a letter from Your Grace.
Once back at Prince Regent''s estate, Nn immediately stopped his work when he heard Eliza''s name. He looked up, set aside his papers, and took the letter from Ross.
As he read each line, the realization hit Nn hard.
Nn thought, ''So, Serenity knew everything from the start, and this was all part of her n. In that case, Dn can no longer stay here with me. But I can''t just send him back to the Duke''s estate either, or he''ll fall straight into the Duke of Mowbay''s hands and be of no trouble at all.''
Nn thought for a moment, then looked up and ordered Ross, "Go back to the Duke''s estate and deliver Dn into Benedict''s hands. And make sure the estate''s shadow guards don''t spot you."
Ross, exhausted after running all night, could hardly hide his displeasure.
Nn shed a faint, dismissive smile. "Fine, fine. Once you''ve handled this, take tomorrow off. No need toe in."
"Thank you, Nn! You''re too kind!"
Ross immediately brightened and hurriedly carried Dn off, moving with such speed as if he feared Nn would change
his mind.
Half an hourter, before dawn, in Benedict''s courtyard at the Duke''s estate, the sound of knocking echoed through the quiet night.
"Knock, knock."
Benedict, who had been sleeping soundly, was abruptly woken by the sound of knocking on the door.
Benedict, though not as skilled inbat as Dn and Matthew, had sharper instincts than most. o, the moment the knock echoed through the quiet night, he was instantly awake.
"Who''s there?" Benedict called out, his voice low.
Benedict opened his eyes, his gaze locked on the door. As he slowly sat up, he dressed quickly and asked again, "Who''s out there?"
Another round of knocking answered him.
Benedict furrowed his brows.
The servants in the courtyard had mainly been sent away, and even his personal attendant, Manson, had gone to rest. With no one else around to check the situation, Benedict had no choice but to approach the door himself.
He didn''t immediately open it. Instead, he cautiously stood inside, sword in hand, listening intently to the sounds outside before slowly easing the door open.
As the door creaked, the first thing Benedict noticed in the pitch-ck night wasn''t the thief he expected. Just as he was about to retreat, his eyesnded on something on the ground.
"What the-?" Benedict''s eyes widened in shock.
Benedict thought, ''Why is there someone lying on the ground? Could this be the person who knocked just now?'' When Benedict flipped the person over and moved closer, his eyes widened in shock as he finally recognized the face.
"Dn? What happened? What''s going on?" Benedict immediately pulled him into the room.
But even after settling Dn onto the bed and repeatedly calling his name, Dn didn''t stir. Concern gnawed at Benedict.
Benedict thought, ''What happened here?''
He knew Dn had returned, but he''d also heard that Dn had left early this morning. Earlier, Benedict hadn''t seen Dn.

He had assumed Dn had returned to his modest cottage at the foot of Mount Westin, but to his surprise, Dn was still
here at the estate.
Benedict thought, ''And now, he copses outside my door. Did Gabriel do something to him? I can''t trust Gabriel anymore, but I''ll stop overthinking it. From the looks of it, he''s just fainted. I''ll wait for him to wake up and get the full story then!
After spending the night resting on a small cot in his room, Benedict was preparing to head out for his duties the next morning when Dn finally woke up.
"Ugh, my head..." Dn winced in pain, recalling how the shadowy figure fromst night had struck him on the head, nearly sending him into oblivion.
As soon as Dn woke up, the memory of being knocked unconscious the night before flooded back. Gripping his still throbbing head, he cursed under his breath and slowly sat up.
It was then that he took in his surroundings.
"Wait... is this Benedict?"
He spotted Benedict emerging from behind a screen, freshly dressed in his official robes.
"Dn? You''re awake finally! What happenedst night? How did you end up copsed at my door?"
"Wait, when did I copse at your door?" Dn paused, confused. He clearly remembered being knocked out in the alley by the sudden ambush of shadow guards.
Dn thought, ''I was certain they''d take me to Gabriel after I passed out. But instead, I wake up here, in Benedict''s room? There was something off about what he was saying. It didn''t quite add up.''
Benedict noticed that Dn seemed just as confused about the situation as he was. He furrowed his brow slightly, then said, "Forget it. Just rest here in my room for now. I''ve had most of the servants reassigned to other parts of the estate. Aside from Manson, no one else should being in and out. So stay put, and whatever needs to be dealt with can wait until I return."
Dn rxed at his words. Truth be told, Benedict was the only person in the entire Duke''s estate that he could still trust right now. He nodded obediently, agreeing to stay put.
But Benedict hadn''t even been gone an hour before Manson hurried up to him, panic written all over his face.
"Lord Benedict, it''s bad! Lord Dn-he''s been caught sneaking into the Duke''s study! He was caught in the act, and now they''ve taken him to the Duke!"
Benedict froze, disbelief shing across his face.
"Wait, did you just say what Dn did?"
Benedict thought, ''What do you mean, he went to Gabriel''s study to steal? How could he possibly do something like that?'' Benedict couldn''t believe what he was hearing. He didn''t even take the time to change out of his official robes before hurriedly rushing toward Gabriel''s study.
