Steam rose from the tea as L took a sip, the rich fragrance spreading across her senses.
"So tell me. What qualifies you to be the wife of Morgan Group''s president?" Stefan questioned.
"That''s not for you to decide. Only Kieran''s opinion matters. If he believes I belong at his side, then I am." L met his gaze, her voice steady and unwavering.
Stefan paused before speaking again. "How much do you want to leave him?"
"I won''t leave Kieran. And I would never walk away from him at a time like this." L was firm.
Morgan Group was in a crisis. How could she abandon Kieran now and make him worry about her on top of everything else?
But Stefan had already pulled out a check. "100 million dors."
L frowned and stood up. "I''ve made myself clear. There''s no need to continue this."
"I will have my family help Kieran resolve his crisis if you leave him." Stefan stared at him sharply.
L''s hands clenched at her sides.
"Are you having second thoughts?" Stefan pressed.
Before she could answer, Stefan''s eyes shifted past her. His voice carried a hint of amusement. "He certainly gets news quickly."
L turned just in time to see Kieran stepping out of his car. He was wearing the suit she had chosen that morning, the cufflinks the same ones she had bought him for New Year''s.
He walked over. As L stood up, Kieran ced a hand at her waist, a subtle yet protective gesture. His gaze lowered to meet hers. Upon seeing she was fine, he breathed the faintest sigh of relief.
Stefan spoke first. "You got here fast. But your wife has already agreed to divorce you and have you marry Faith instead."
L''s eyes widened in shock. "I didn''t..."
Before she could finish, Kieran''s voice cut through the air. "She wouldn''t."
"Are you that certain?" Stefan frowned.
L wanted to exin, but Kieran met
ize with a smile, signaling
her
stay calm. "I wouldn''t be here
I didn''t understand L there
well."
He reached into his pocket and ced a business card on the table.
L nced at it and froze.
It was the same card Faith had given her, the very one that she had crumpled and smoothed out so many times.
So he knew.
Stefan looked as if he wanted to say something, but Kieran spoke first. "I won''t give up on Morgan Group. And I certainly won''t give up on L.
Thank you for your time todaval.no
we''ll take our leave. I''ll bring b over another day."
With that, he leaned forward, took L''s hand, and led her away.
"Wait." Faith''s voice rang out from behind them.
L turned, surprised. She hadn''t even realized Faith was there.
"Mr. Morgan, I won the bet." Faith looked at Stefan with a triumphant smile.
Kieran had no intention of entertaining whatever was going on behind them, still intent on leaving with L.
"You two, wait," Stefan called after them. "You younglings... I really can''t understand you."
Faith cast L a look before walking toward her, an unusual rity in her usually guarded eyes.
"After I gave you my card, I went home and thought about everything.
"I''ve spent so much time saying I
wanted
to break free from the
Moore family, yet I came up with this fake marriage as my solution That wasn''t right. ?wnovel
"You were right. What I did left you no choice at all. I want to prove myself to the
Moore family. So I made a bet with Mr. Stefan."
L studied her. There was an unusual light in her eyes.
Faith smiled. "I bet that Kieran would trust you and that you wouldn''t be
intimidated by him or be tempted by the money."
