"You call this a ''small three-bedroom?'' I''ve got a bone to pick with you rich people."
Ameliaughed as she nudged L into the house. She pointed to the opposite house, saying, "This really is my smallest ce. I''ve never lived anywhere with neighbors."
L was speechless. That was such a humblebrag!
"Just make yourself at home here. If you feel bad about it, after the holidays, I''ll find you a few scripts. You can join a crew and shoot something. Stop ving away at Morgan Group ande shine at Joyce Group instead."
Amelia smirked and added, "If you''re worried about those two kids of yours, bring them along. After all, you''re young and already have three years of childcare experience."
L couldn''t help butugh at Amelia''s teasing.
The two of them curled up on the sofa, watching TV, when Amelia suddenly asked, "Did you know Pierre has been released?"
"I know. I''ve seen him."
Amelia was startled but quickly patted her chest to calm herself.
"It''s fine, it''s fine. He''s been caught again by the... um, police. And more dirt on the Locke family has been uncovered."
Realizing that L probably didn''t want to hear anything about the Morgan family right now, Amelia mindfully switched her phrasing.
She frowned slightly, then continued, "I wasn''t nning to tell you about this since you don''t quite like the Locke family, but..."
As she hesitated, L looked up at her. "You want to help Vivian, don''t you?"
Seeing that she stayed silent, L reached out to gently squeeze her hand. Amelia immediately understood her meaning.
Vivian was her friend. If she wanted to help, she should just go ahead and do it. Vivian may have made mistakes, but none serious enough to vite thew or deserve being dragged down with the Locke family intoplete ruin.
Amelia smiled and dropped the topic.
L stayed at the Milton Street apartment for the next few days. During this time, she didn''t see anyone from the Morgan family.
That afternoon, Amelia arrived carrying a box, her face brimming with excitement. "Guess what''s inside!"
As soon as she spoke, a soft, weak meow came from the box.
"Hey, you spoiled the surprise!" Amelia tapped on the box with her finger.
L''s eyes lit up, and she ran over without even putting on her shoes first. "Where did you get a kitten?"
Inside the box, a tiny calico kitten looked up with its big, round eyes.
"My uncle''s cat had three kittens recently, and they were looking for homes for them. I thought you might be bored, so I brought one over. Do you want to keep it?"
L tilted her head, pondering for a moment.
"Yes."
"This little kitten has a new mom now," Amelia said as she set the box down. "Let''s go buy some litter before letting her out."
L smiled. "I''ll tidy up, then we can head to the store to get everything we need."
"Think of a name first."
"Oh, right." L pped her forehead. "How about ''Callie?""''
"Just because she''s a calico?"
Amelia gently stroked the kitten'' et
head. Your mom''s so thoughtless! Let your auntie give you a better name!"
She nced out the window. "It''s the New Year. Why not call her ''Nova''? ''Nova''
means ''new,'' and symbolizes the new beginnings of the year."
L crouched down and stroked the kitten''s head. "Nova, huh? That''s a lovely hame for a littledy. Nova, Noya. May you bring me sess and happiness!"
After tidying up, the two of them headed out.
As they reached the ground floor, L stopped in her tracks.
Not far away, a ck Maybach was parked. Leaning against the car stood a man
gazing up at the floor they had juste down from.
