Dominic chuckled with mockery. He asked, "Do you think I saved you out of kindness?"
Emily froze. She had schemed against Dominic''s mother. It was already a blessing that he didn''t take revenge. How could he save her out of kindness?
Emily asked, "Mr. Reid, you saved me because I''m still useful, right? You want to use me against Selena."
Dominic chuckled again and responded, "You''re quick on the uptake."
He crossed one leg over the other and continued, "Selena has been tearing the world apart trying to find you. I figured that as long as you''re alive, she will feel uneasy."
Emily''s face went pale. The memory of her car plunging into the water came flooding back. The fear of dying surged through her again as tears spilled over. She didn''t want to die.
She choked out, "Mr. Reid, I''ll do everything you ask me to do as long as you let me live. Please help me."
Dominic remained unmoved. His voice carried a terrifying weight as he said, "Whether you live or die depends entirely on your cooperation."
Emily pursed her lips. She lowered her head and fidgeted with her fingers, considering his words for a long time. Then, she said, "I''ll tell you everything I know."
Emily continued, "Last year, a friend introduced me to Selena. We started hanging out more often. One time, she invited me onto a yacht. There were many young men. I drank too much and lost control. That''s how she got something on me.
"She used that to force me to join the Lumena Order. I didn''t have a choice, so I used my connections in Halewick to help her with all kinds of shady things. If I didn''t, she would ruin me.
"The masquerade ball was something Selena had been nning for two months. She sent me to approach your mother and gain her trust. That night, the masks we handed out wereced with some kind of drug that messes with your head. "Once your mother got dizzy, we would take her somewhere to rest. It was the same thing Selena did to me when she first trapped me.
"But who would have known that the masks didn''t work? So, Selena changed the n. She dressed up as Maude and approached your mother with a fake fortune- telling act, hoping to get close and knock her out another way.
"But for some reason, Selena lost control and started going after people she wasn''t supposed to. And you already know what happened after that.
"I''ve said everything."
Actually, Emily didn''t mention a lot of things. She didn''t talk about how Selena had used the same trap on others. She didn''t bring up the way she and the others had been scared and unwilling. But money was too tempting. Eventually, they had all given in.
Their morals corroded, and their guilt numbed. Once they stepped off the edge, it was hard to climb back.
The room fell silent. Dominic exuded
a cold demeanor. The weight he gave off was suffocating making Emily unable to breathe. She was terrified that he would kill he out of spite. s<fnc5b1> ???? ????s? ???????s ?? f?i?n?d?n?o?v?e?l?</fnc5b1>
Dominic didn''t say anything else.. Instead, he got up and left the room. He gave the two men guarding
outside a few instructions, which the two acknowledged before entering the room. s
At this time, Vespera walked over from the near distance and said, "Mr. Reid, you said you were bringing someone back to Halewick. Did you mean Mrs. Dawson? What''s she doing here?"
Dominic blurted out, "Selena wants her dead."
Upon hearing that, Vespera was stunned. She asked, "Why? Weren''t they on the same side?"
Dominic answered, "I believe Selena is afraid that Mrs. Dawon will flip on her."
"So, she tried to kill her to keep her quiet?" Vespera questioned.
Dominic exined, "In Selena''s world, dead people are the only ones who don''t talk."
Vespera thought that Selena was seriously inhumane.
Just then, Nancy came over from the stairs. She looked at Dominic and asked, "Are you going back to Halewick?"
Dominic responded indifferently, "Yeah. We''re heading back. Elouber is a nice ce. You should stay and enjoy it a while longer."
Nancy gave a dryugh. She asked, "What about what you promised me? When are you nning to follow through?"
Dominic answered, "I don''t have time right now. We''ll talk about it when Vera and I are both free."
When Nancy heard that answer, she frowned. Then, realization hit. "Are you bringing her on our date?"
Dominic replied without any pressure, "Yeah. You never said I couldn''t. I thought you already agreed."
Nancy was at a loss for words. Meanwhile, Vespera stayed silent. At first, Vespera had expected Nancy to explode because Dominic truly was pushing it.
But surprisingly, Nancy didn''tsh
out. She just stood there and stared at Dominic with reddened eyes. "Forget it. Who needs such a pathetic date? Do need to sit there and watch you two unt your rtionship in my face? Just cancel
it." s
