Vespera and Yasmine were both speechless.

    Netherdoor? What was next, demons?

    Dominic sighed.

He added a line beneath thest note and tranted, "There are no cameras here. We can go next door. He probably means the room next to where Ms. Kinsman works."

Calvert nodded vigorously, then drew a quickyout on the paper. And to be fair, his drawing was way better than his handwriting. It was clear and easy to follow.

Dominic told Calvert and Yasmine to stay put. He and Vespera would go check it out.

Yasmine said she was fine with whatever.

Calvert figured it didn''t seem dangerous over there, so he agreed, too.

Dominic and Vespera slipped quietly out of the room.

This building used to be rented office space, so it was pretty big. And now, with all the spiritual decor and weird setups, the ce felt chaotic and maze-like. If they didn''t already know theyout, it was easy to get lost.

They eventually found the spot Calvert had drawn.

The door creaked open with just a light push. It wasn''t even locked.

Vespera was about toment on how easy that was when she saw a padlock lying on the

    floor.

Did that guy just take it off? How''d he even do that? Well, it didn''t matter.

His Hanic might be a mess, but he clearly had other talents. Otherwise, he wouldn''t be working this close to Dominic.

Once they stepped inside, they realized it was a bedroom, and there was a huge bed right in the

    middle.

Vespera couldn''t help but liken spiritual experts topany presidents. If they got tired, would they one here to nap?

As the thought crossed her mind, her drifted to Dominic.

    yes

He leaned in slightly, voice low and warm against her face, his tone teasing. "You looked at the bed... then looked at me. What are you trying to say?"

Vespera practically choked. "I was just thinking maybe Ms. Kinsman enjoys afternoon naps like you."

She was mortified. What kind of response was that?

It was so awkward. So weird. So next-level socially unsalvageable, even if a god descended to

    help.

Vespera felt the secondhand embarrassment in her bones and quickly turned away, walking a few steps ahead to escape the moment.

On the left wall, there were three holes-each about the size of a coin-letting light through from the other side. A scripture art had been hung over it before, probably covering the holespletely.

They leaned in close to the holes.

On the other side was an altar.

From where they were positioned, they could see the entire room through the holes. It was arge space, arranged like a chapel.

At the front stood a disy of the Holy Triune, and sitting just below it was an elderly woman with her eyes closed. She looked blind because her eyes hadn''t opened once.

    That was Miranda.

Then they spotted someone seated to Miranda''s left. The figure had a white veil covering her face, but even with that, her figure was unmistakable.

    It was Reba.

She really was there to "study under an expert.

Calvert had surprisingly sharp eyes. Most people wouldn''t have recognized her in that getup, yet he''d only seen her on the security feed and still figured it out.

Just then, someone entered the room. It was Belle again, and this time, she brought in a well-dressed, middle-aged woman.

    It was ire.

    It really was her.

ire walked carefully to the front and knelt on a cushion, her expression devout and humble. "Ms, Kinsmar ''ve done everything you told me. Please... can my daughter''s situation be

    resolved now?"

Miranda gave a low, heavy hum. "I''ll go ask again on your behalf."

With that, sheunched into a deep, muttering chant, her body swaying and convulsing. "Tina''s whole ''epileptic fit'' act... don''t tell me this is where she got it from?" Vespera thought. Off to the side, Reba kept up her performance, pretending to write something with intense

focus-though who knew what she was actually scribbling.

    Finally, Miranda''s shaking stops.

Suddenly, she flew into a rage, knocking over the censer in front of her.

"I told you again and again—no lies! There''s something huge still hidden about your daughter, and you didn''t tell me! You''ve angered the spirits! You''ll get me killed-"

She finished with a violent cough and spat out a huge mouthful of blood.

Wooden ques hanging on the wall ttered to the floor in a loud wave.

Beside her, Miranda''s "assistant" Reba started hurling pages toward ire''s face-pages covered in the word death, written in big, red, scrawl. They floated all around her, nding right in front of her eyes.

ire screamed and ducked her head, panicking. "You''re already dead! Stay away from me! Don''te for my daughter! Stay away from my daughter-"

The louder she screamed, the faster Reba wrote, throwing more and more death notes at her. Then she grabbed a handful of ashes and flung them into ire''s face and hair.

    Vespera watched, absolutely fired up.

But then a question hit her. What did she mean by "you''re alr

    dead"? She was very much

    alive.

Dominic''s lips curled into a smirk, somewhere between mocking and cold. "Figures... It takes a ghost to handle someone that evil."
