Chapter 1717

The man let out a heavy sigh as he crouched to gather the scattered gun parts from the ground. "She''s part of the Davis family, so finding the Count''s ce would be a breeze for her. Rather than trying to hide, it''s better to juste clean."

The others went silent, absorbing his words. Coming clean might just be their ticket to staying alive. Their loyalty to Count Murray only went as far as their survival.

"And remember, not a peep about today''s fiasco to anyone. If Count Murray inquires, just say the Davis family had airtight security, and there was no way for us to make a move." The man stressed his point.

He wasn''t entirely sure why the girl had given such a warning, but staying alive meant ying it safe.

Before long, the group headed back to report.

Count Murray''s secretary was in charge of the task to capture Mirabe. When he heard the mission had flopped, his face twisted in frustration. "You botched such a simple job? What are you even here for?"

"Sorry, but the Davis family had someone tailing her constantly, so we never got a chance."

Rubbing his forehead, the secretary didn''t doubt their exnation. After a pause, he said, "Keep an eye out for another chance."

    "Got it."

Just then, the secretary''s phone rang. He lifted a hand, signaling silence before answering.

The call was from the detective he''d hired to dig into the girlfriend of someone important at the weapons bureau.

After a quick chat, the detective emailed him some findings.

The secretary opened the email, and his eyes widened as he sat up straight.

    In

How could it be? How could the weapons bureau guy''s girlfriend be this girl? How could she be tied to the Davis family? His mind was buzzing. Recalling Count Murray''s orders, he quickly rang the detective back. "Are you sure about the info you sent?"

The detective, who worked for the Merrywoods Investigation Bureau, had ess to solid intel. Annoyed, he replied, "If you think it''s wrong, hire someone else. But even our director would tell you the same."

Picking up on the detective''s irritation, the secretary rified, "Apologies, I didn''t

mean to doubt you. The info just caught us off guard."

    Who would''ve guessed the person

Count Murray wanted to connect with was also someone Leon was interested in, and from the rival Davis family no less? The whole

    situation seemed ridicul whole

    coincidental.

    Troubled, the secretary hung up.

Count Murray was still trying to snag a shipment of weapons he missed out onst night. He hoped to use James''s mysterious girlfriend as a link, but now that n seemed shaky.

Clutching his phone, the secretary thought for a moment, then turned to his subordinate, who lingered in the room. "By the way, the Davis family didn''t catch wind of you today, right?"

The subordinate''s heart skipped a beat. He nervously clenched his fists but quickly masked his anxiety, shaking his head. "No, they didn''t."

The old market had no cameras, and as long as they stayed mum, the secretary wouldn''t catch wind of the slip-up.

The secretary exhaled a little, relieved. "Alright, I get it. You can head out now."

If they hadn''t ticked anyone off yet, there might still be a chance to turn things around.

The subordinate, biting his lip, decided to keep quiet and left the room.

Oblivious to the subordinate''s inner conflict, the secretary got up, ready to brief Murray at the Count''s mansion.
