Mirabe let out a soft sigh, not even bothering to check her phone. She saidzily, "I''ve thought about it, and I can squeeze in some time. Let''s go."
"Alright," James nodded, like he was used to her whims, and naturally took her hand as they headed out. "There''s an exhibition tonight. If we grab dinner first, the timing will be perfect."
"Sounds good," Mirabe agreed without a second thought.
The two of them walked together, their tall figures and clothes swaying stylishly in the breeze, making quite the striking pair.
Cassie watched them go, feeling a bit dazed, like he''d just been outsmarted somehow. He scratched his head and hurried to catch up.
The trio left the airport and headed straight to a swanky club restaurant. Since they''d booked a table in advance, they were whisked up to a private room as soon as they arrived.
James''s phone buzzed. He said something to Mirabe and stepped outside to take the call.
Mirabe nced after him, then took off her jacket and hung it on a nearby rack. She reached for the two fancy menus sitting on the sideboard.
One menu was in English, and the other in a foreignnguage. She handed the English one to Cassie and started browsing the foreign one. "Order whatever you want. Your brother-inw''s not short on cash."
Cassie felt a little awkward. Calling him brother-inw himself and hearing it from his sister felt oddly different.
He opened the menu but didn''t really look at the dishes. Instead, he nudged Mirabe with his elbow and whispered, "Sis, what''s the deal with that old guy?" "Old guy?" Mirabe raised an eyebrow, giving him a sidelong nce. Cassie coughed, looking ufortable. "I mean, brother-inw."
"Didn''t he say he''d take you to pick out a rifle after dinner? You''ll find out then," Mirabe said casually, turning back to the menu.
She paused for a moment, as if something hade to mind, and looked back at Cassie. "Why the sudden interest in rifles?"
Cassie just shrugged. "You once promised to get me one, remember?"
Mirabe looked away, putting on a serious face. "You must''ve misheard."
Cassie: "Ha ha."
Mirabe: "..."
She was starting to wonder why she had such a brother.
Not long after, James returned from his call, ing the siblings
engrossed in their phones. He raised an eyebrow and sat down next to Mirabe.
"Have you ordered yet?" he asked.
Mirabe noddedzily.
James draped his arm over the back of her chair, casually twirling a strand of her loose hair with his fingers. "The guy who kidnapped your friends probably isn''t dead."
Mirabe looked up, but her expression remained calm. "I figured. He''s not that easy to get rid of."
James''s eyes flickered with interest at her words. "But who is this guy? Curtis can''t seem to track him down."
Mirabe leaned back, not holding back the truth. "I don''t know his usual alias, but he''s with the Phantom Watch."
She didn''t know what Santos went by outside, but she was sure his identity wasn''t just one thing.
After a pause, Mirabe added, "His real name is Santos."
As soon as she said it, Cassie, who
had been quietly listening,
who did you say?nly
looked
"Sis
up, his expression shifting.
