Mirabe''s eyes lifted slowly, her voice low and steady as she asked, "Hey, where are you, my friend?"
"I..." ze began, but something seemed to happen on his end. There was a sudden burst of noise, and then the line went silent.
Mirabe pulled the phone away from her ear, staring at the screen showing the call had ended. She tried to call back, but it was already switched off.
Frowning, she quickly dialed Grady''s number. The phone barely rang before he picked up.
"Miss Mira."
Mirabe didn''t waste time with pleasantries. "Uncle, I think my friend might be in trouble. Could you help me check if they''re still at the hotel?"
She needed to get to the bottom of this.
Grady''s tone shifted to serious immediately. "Alright, I''ll call Reid right away." "Thanks, Uncle."
After hanging up, Mirabe turned to James, who was still parked nearby. He rolled down the window and asked, "What''s up?"
Mirabe''s face was tense, a hint of something dangerous in her eyes. She nced at James, her grip still firm on the phone. "My friend might be in a jam. He said someone''s trying to get to me."
James knew how close Mirabe was to her friends. "Don''t sweat it. If they''re after you, they won''t harm your friends until they find you."
Mirabe nodded as her phone buzzed again. It was Grady calling back.
"Someone slipped past Reid''s crew and took your three friends. We''re tracking them down, but we haven''t figured out who did it yet."
Grady sounded apologetic. "I''m sorry, Miss Mira. It''s my fault your friends got caught up in this."
Mirabe''s eyes grew colder. "It''s not on you. They''re targeting me." Even with extra protection, those behind this would find a way through.
"They''re after you?" Grady was taken aback. "Any idea who it might be, Miss Mira?"
"Sort of," Mirabe smirked slightly and asked, "Uncle, is Robert still at the hotel?"
"Yeah, he''s been there the whole time, so he''s safe." Grady paused, adding, "I''ll find out where your friends are ASAP."
Mirabe squeezed her phone lightly, already piecing things together. She turned down Grady''s offer, "Thanks, Uncle, but no need to worry. I know where they are. I can handle it."
Their target was her, so finding her friends wouldn''t take much effort.
Grady wanted to insist it wasn''t that simple, but before he could, Mirabe had already said goodbye and ended the call.
Feeling guilty, Grady still ordered his team to dig into it right away.
Meanwhile, Mirabe cast a nce towards the Davis family''s direction, then turned away, quickly heading to James''s car. She opened the
Ser door and hopped in.
James, sensing the urgency, didn''t bother asking where they were headed. He
started the engine, and the car swiftly turned around, speeding off.
Once inside, Mirabe fired off a
quick message to Chester,
Vel
exining she had to dash off for an
emergency, then switched her
phone toputer mode.
As she suspected, it didn''t take long to pinpoint ze and the others'' exact location.
