Patrick felt like his mind was ying tricks on him today, probably because his
heart was working overtime. So, he brushed off the words he''d just overheard and cleared his throat a little too loudly, "Uh..."
Before he could finish, Grady''s associate suddenly turned his head, eyes filled with a fierce intensity that swept across Patrick''s face, causing him to freeze up, mind nk.
The words he meant to say got stuck in his throat, not a single syble escaping. Once the associate realized it was Patrick, his threatening demeanor immediately vanished, reced by the harmless, polite expression from earlier. "I''m sorry, were you about to say something?"
Patrick was so stunned his mouth formed an ''O''. It took him a moment before he managed to stammer, "... Mira''s fine."
He automatically lifted his hand to point towards the hospital. The associate nodded politely in thanks and quickly headed into the hospital lobby. Patrick rubbed his eyes. Today had turned out to be the most mind-bending day of his life.
Mirabe had barely set foot in the police station when Grady showed up right after.
"Miss Mira, are you hurt?" Grady asked, his brow furrowed. Even though he was trying to keep his cool, you could still feel the tension in the air.
This made the rookie officer taking notes in the office tense up, his hand twitching near his belt, just in case.
Mirabe''s hair was only half-dry, and she was wrapped in a coat borrowed from Patrick''s friend. Her face was a bit pale, but she didn''t look frazzled.
She looked at Grady. "I''m fine, no need to worry."
"How did you end up falling into the water at school? What exactly happened?" Grady had rushed over as soon as he got the call from his team, without having time to get the whole story.
Mirabe kept her right hand tucked inside her still-damp jacket. The incident with Summer would make its way to the Davis family eventually.
Her fingers lightly yed with the object in her palm as she casually said, "Just had a bit of a disagreement with Summer."
She left it at that, not bothering to exin orin, like it was just your typical school drama.
Grady''s face darkened at the mention of Summer''s name. Mr. Nick had just started to recover from his own kidnapping ordeal, and now this? Did they really think Miss Mira was an easy target, just because of the Davis family''s history?
Did they think they could get away with it, no strings attached?
Grady took a deep breath. He wasn''t going to be as sentimental as Zach and Debra, clinging to old ties.
He turned back to Mirabe, "Is Summer at Riverside University now?"
"No," Mirabe said, rubbing her nose, "She''s at the hospital."
"The hospital?" Grady was momentarily caught off guard.
With one at the police station and the other in the hospital, the gloom on Grady''s
face lifted a little, "Miss Mira, did you... hit her?"
If she did, that would actually be quite impressive.
"No, I didn''t, Mirabe shrugged, shing a look that said, ''I''m a good student, how could I hit someone?'' "I e figured she might be having a mental breakdown, so I kindly sent her to the hospital for a check-up."

Grady''s eyes flickered with a touch of amusement at this. Meanwhile, Mirabe had already resumed her chat with the rookie officer, discussing how victims of attacks by mentally ill individuals could stand up for their rights.
