The leader of the group was a bit taken aback this time. Their target was different than usual. But in the end, she was just a young woman. Besides a touch of caution, he wasn''t too worried about capturing her.
Cutting to the chase, he asked, "Are youing with us nicely, or do we have to persuade you? Just so you know, it might get rough if we do."
"Who sent you?" Mirabe asked casually, her fingers slowly rolling up her sleeves.
The man let out a smallugh, "In our business, we don''t ask for names."
Mirabe shook her head in mock sympathy, “That''s tough luck for you, not even knowing who''s pulling your strings."
The man furrowed his brow, confused by her words.
Before he could give it more thought, in the blink of an eye, the girl who had been standing a ways off was suddenly right in front of him.
Startled, he heard her voice, calm and steady, "Let me teach you something: not knowing who hired you could be a fatal mistake."
Mirabe smirked, and with a quick, precise move, she jabbed a silver needle she carried into a point on the man''s back. He hit the ground before he could even react.
Seeing this, the rest of the group looked shocked but quickly sprang into action, attacking Mirabe with everything they had, their movements aggressive and desperate.
Five minutester, Mirabe calmly rolled her sleeves back down, ncing dismissively at the men now sprawled out on the ground.
Completely useless, she thought. How do they even justify their jobs?
Mirabe clicked her tongue in irritation, headed back to her car, and grabbed her phone from the console to check the time. She noticed a missed call from Nick earlier.
Surprised, she started the engine and gave him a call back.
The line connected quickly.
"Hey, Nick, what''s going on?" Mirabe asked, her tone sweet and lighthearted.
Nick replied, "Hey, Mirabe, are you over at James'' ce now?"
"Nope, I just finished dinner with Leo''s manager and am heading back," Mirabe answered truthfully.
Nick raised an eyebrow, "What did Leo''s manager want with you?"
"Leo sent him with something for me. By the way, are you done with work? When are youing back?" she inquired.
"I just got home," Nick said, sitting on the couch and rubbing his temples, looking visibly worn out.
Hearing this, Mirabe assured him she''d be back soon and hung up the phone.
Nick set his phone down, leaned back, and closed his eyes for a bit. Then, remembering something, he opened his eyes, picked up a nearby folder, and his expression turned serious.
Why were those people digging into Mirabe''s background?
Nick couldn''t figure it out. After a moment, he got up, went outside to the garden, pulled out a lighter, and burned the documents from the folder.
Once the ashes were cleaned up, he headed back inside.
Not long after, Mirabe arrived home.
Nick was waiting for her, "I heard from Marian that your brother from back home is here now."
"Yeah, he came over for school," Mirabe replied, her demeanor rxed.
Nick nced at her but didn''t push、
