Leonard continued, "I think you noticed something was wrong too. Otherwise, you wouldn''t havee here alone today. You just don''t want to ept that his condition is deteriorating."
Ste fell silent.
In the study.
Joshua stood by the window, phone in hand. His voice was cool andposed.
"She''s starting to suspect me, isn''t she?"
Colby''s voice came through the receiver.
"I told her exactly what you said to. She should be pointing the finger at Leonard right now. After all, you share a bed with her. You''re thest person she''d ever suspect."
Joshua stared out at the scenery, saying nothing.
"If there''s nothing else, I''m hanging up," Colby said.
He waited a beat, and when he got no response, he ended the call.
Wiping a cold sweat from his forehead, Colby muttered, "This nightmare of a job is finally almost over."
He turned to his assistant.
"Pack everything up. We''re leaving today."
The assistant asked quietly, "Did Ms. Cameron figure it out that fast? It''s only been a month."
Colby shot him a look. "You think it''s that easy to catch someone like him in a lie?"
The assistant looked confused, missing his point.
"But... she did find out, didn''t she?"
Colby sneered. "If I hadn''t intentionally dropped hints, everyone would have been fooled... and that guy would be totally doomed."
Realization dawned on the assistant''s face. No wonder Dr. Hunt wanted him to pack. They were making a run for it!
Colby massaged his aching temples. "Now that she knows something''s up, he''s too busy to deal with me. But once he has the time, I''m a dead man.. Looks like I need toy low for a while. This year has been garbage Getting threatened by two absolute psychos, one crazier than the next. This industry is a nightmare. All I deal with are lunatics. I should just switch careers."
The assistant was still puzzled. "Leonard found you through a rmendation. But how did Joshua find you? And why would you intentionally expose the lie and put yourself in danger? Are you trying to help him?"
Colby sighed. "Truth is, I actually met him in Crestmont once."
The assistant was shocked. "What were you doing in a warzone like Crestmont?
Don''t tell me you got scammed again."
Colby was speechless.
Seeing his face, the assistant knew he had guessed right.
Colby had a terrible habit of getting scammed because he always tried to score a cheap deal.
He was an odd guy.
With his current status and wealth, he was set for life. Yet, he still loved a bargain, which usually ended with him taking a massive loss.
By all ounts, this was a psychological issue in itself.
But Colby didn''t see it that way. He just thought of it as a hobby. He loved a good bargain.
Then again, psychiatrists like him spent their lives surrounded by the insane and the abnormal.
Spend enough time in that world, and even the sane ones start cracking.
So, Colby''s quirks weren''t actually all that surprising.
He was constantly scammed because of his bargain-hunting, yet he never seemed
to learn his lesson.
Colby exined why he was willing to tip Joshua off. "I was scammed in Crestmont and almost sold off when
I ran into him. He was out for revenge or something... Anyway, the guys who scammed me messed with his ns, so he just wiped them out. I ended up getting saved in the crossfire.
