Joshua walked up to Ste and said in a low voice, "Star, it''s just a personal grudge between Laurel and me."
Ste stared at him unblinking. "What kind of personal grudge makes you want to strangle Ms. Quinn to death?"
Joshua didn''t speak.
Ste gazed at him quietly. "Joshua, is there still something you can''t tell me?"
Joshua''s eyes flickered. "Star..."
There was no need for Joshua to say anything else; Ste already knew the answer from his reaction.
A hint of disappointment surfaced in Ste''s eyes.
She turned to look at Laurel with an apologetic expression.
"Ms. Quinn, I am truly sorry."
Previously, Ste had been half-doubtful of Laurel''s words.
Now, Stepletely understood that Laurel hadn''t lied to her.
Otherwise, Joshua wouldn''t havee to her door.
Laurel coughed while shaking her head.
"...I''m fine."
She didn''t me Joshua; she just hoped that Joshua could get his illness treated as soon as possible.
Standing aside, Beckett looked at Laurel''s pained expression and tightly clenched his fists.
He seemed to want to say something, but in the end, he gritted his teeth and held it back.
Ste knew there was no point in staying here any longer.
She said to Laurel, "Ms. Quinn, Joshua and I will head back first."
Laurel nodded gently. "Yes, you go back first."
Ste and Joshua quickly left.
Only after Joshua left did Beckett speak in a hoarse voice.
"Laurel, you wholeheartedly did this for him, and he actually tried to kill you. What happened back then was also my debt to Joshua, it had nothing to do with you."
Clear tears welled up in Laurel''s
eyes. "When you were captured back then, Joshua originally wanted to take his time, formte a n, and choose the right moment to save you. But I was worried you would be tortured, sp1 used our years of friendship and our uing marriage... to force Joshua into
saving you. I said if he didn''t go save you, I would go myself."
Speaking of this, she lowered her head guiltily.
"If I had listened to Joshua then, waited another ten days or half a month for him to arrange all his ns properly, he wouldn''t have... wouldn''t have fallen into their
hands to cover for us because the n was rushed."
Beckett hadn''t expected there to be such a backstory.
He had only thought that Joshua fell into the enemy''s hands to cover for them.
No wonder Laurel unconditionally helped Joshua.
"Laurel, how... how could you be so irrational?"
Laurel said softly, "I didn''t want you to suffer a few more days of torture, but the result was that Joshua was tortured for over half a year. It was basically trading Joshua to get you back. Recently, Joshua''s memories have been loosening up. I suspect... he must have remembered everything from that time."
After a few seconds of silence, Beckett said, "Laurel, I know you meant well, but Joshua''s condition is too unstable. If I hadn''t brought Ste here today, you probably would have..."
Laurel, however, said, "No. Even if Ste hadn''te, Joshua wouldn''t have killed me, otherwise things between him and Ste would hardly remain peaceful. He would just make me suffer a bit."
Thinking of this, Laurel remembered something and asked Beckett.
"How did you know Joshua woulde looking for me?"
Beckett said, "I''ve been keeping an eye on Joshua''s sidetely. First Jonathan Williams fell into aa, then Sellers Burton disappeared, and Aurora Williams reputation was ruined at her engagement party... A few days ago, something seemed to have happened on Neville Connolly''s end as well.
