But Melody was relentless and targeted Abby in various ways. As a rich heiress, Melody had far more money and connections than an ordinary person like Abby. Abby stood no chance against that kind of power and was almost forced to drop out of school because of it. In the end, Ste had to ask Lauretta Chapman to intervene on behalf of the Chapman family to resolve the matter.
Since then, Abby had be disillusioned with romance.
"Melody and her so-called fiancé never got together," Abby exined. "But she insists the guy is still hung up on me and started causing trouble for me again. I was nning to stay a few more days, but I couldn''t be bothered with her anymore, so I just came back..."
Before Abby could finish, Ste suddenly shoved her aside.
"Abby, look out!"
A bucket of water mixed with ice cubes came flying toward them.
Ste managed to push Abby away, but she couldn''t dodge in time. The freezing water and chunks of ice mmed into her. One sharp piece of ice even struck her on the forehead, cutting her skin.
The bodyguards, who had been blending into the crowd to protect Ste, rushed over to check on her.
"Ms. Cameron, are you all right?"
They usually kept a distance from Ste to avoid drawing attention.
Ste wiped the icy water from her face. "I''m fine. Abby, how about you?"
Thanks to Ste''s quick reaction, Abby was mostly unharmed, with just the ends of her hair getting wet. Ste, on the other hand, was soaked through, her lips turning pale from the cold.
Realization dawned on Abby, and she immediately checked Ste''s hands. "Star, are your hands okay?" she asked nervously.
Abby knew that Ste had recently had surgery on her hand and was still in recovery. When the ice hit her, Ste had instinctively raised her hands to shield herself, and a few cubes had struck them. Ste herself wasn''t sure if her hands were injured.
Not wanting to worry Abby, Ste tried to reassure her. "It should be fine. I''ll go see Old Mr. Wyattter to be sure."
Only then did Ste turn to look at the person who had thrown the water. A young, arrogant woman stood not far away, her chin tilted up with an air of imperious disdain. Beside her stood a man who looked like a bodyguard; he was the one who had thrown the bucket.
Ste had a good memory and recognized her at once. It was Melody, the very person they had just been discussing. How had she followed them here so quickly?
Seeing Melody, Abby''s face twisted with anger. "Melody, are you insane?!"
Melody showed no fear, her
arrogance only growing. "What''s with that look? You''re a
???
homewrecker who seduces other peoples men A bucket of water is letting you off easy. I''m warning you, if you dare try your man-eating tricks around here again, a bucket of water will be the least of your problems!"
Her gaze then shifted to Ste. "Birds of a feather flock together. A homewrecker''s
friends are homewreckers too! You deserved it!"
Abby wanted nothing more than to p Melody, but she managed to restrain
herself. Ste''s hand was more important.
"Star, let''s go get your hand checked," Abby urged.
Ste shot a cold nce at Melody and nodded.
When Melody saw them trying to leave, she moved to block them but was stopped by Ste''s bodyguards.
Filled with jealousy and resentment,
Melody couldn''t help but shout after
them, "A vixen''s friend is just another
back
vixen Are you to running two! running back your den to plot how to ruin the next
man? Abby, I''m telling you, this isn''t
over!
over! I''m going to ruin your reputation so you can never show your face in public again!"
Neither Ste nor Abby paid her any mind.
To avoid catching a cold, they both changed into a fresh set of clothes. After changing, they left the mall, intending to head to Old Mr. Wyatt''s cecouddenly a car pulled up in front of them, and a tall, familiar figure stepped out, striding quickly to Ste''s side.
"Star, are you all right?"
Joshua''s expression was tense, his dark eyes terrifyingly grim. When his gaze swept over Abby, she felt her breath catch in her throat, unable to meet his eyes.
