Beckett said, "Even if I did investigate Aurora, that doesn''t mean I kidnapped her. Is everyone who looked into her case a suspect?"
Joshua looked at him with a wry smile. "If you didn''t kidnap her, why were you investigating her for no reason? Do you have a secret crush on her?"
At Joshua''s words, the members of the Williams family all turned to look at Beckett again.
Beckett almostughed at the absurd usation. "What? So if I didn''t kidnap her, it must mean I have a crush on her?"
Joshua effortlessly tossed the ball back into his court. "Then why were you investigating her?"
"You framed me!" Beckett gritted out.
Ste fell silent.
Had Beckett not realized their conversation was just going in circles?
Dealing with Joshua required a strong constitution. In the past, Beckett had been yed by him more than a few times.
Right now, Beckett desperately wanted to pull out a gun and just shoot him.
He was so damn infuriating!
Skyler cleared his throat, interrupting their pointless argument.
He turned to Joshua. "Joshua, you im Mr. Torres is a likely suspect because he was investigating Aurora''s movements. Let''s assume he had the capability to abduct her and transport her out of Solmaris. But he has no power or connections in the Delta. How could he have hidden Aurora so well that no one could find her, and how did he get in touch with the Fordham Group brothers?"
Skyler, always the shrewd patriarch, had pinpointed the key issue.
Beckett had influence in Solmaris; he could have pulled off the kidnapping.
But to keep Aurora hidden from the massive searchunched by the Williams and Burton families, he would need considerable power in the Delta.
Beckett snorted, looking at Joshua as if to say, "Let''s see you talk your way out of this one."
Joshua, however, remainedpletely unfazed, a faint smile on his face.
"There''s a mysterious figure in the Delta known as ''Mr. Vesper.'' He always wears a mask in public, so no one knows his appearance, identity, or age.
The only thing known about him is that he''s Asian.
Now, what kind of person would wear a mask, hiding their face so no one recognizes them?"
He nced at Beckett and chuckled. "The most likely reason is that he has another identity that he can''t afford to have exposed."
The Williams family members were visibly shaken, their gazes toward Beckett growing stranger by the second.
When Joshua told the truth,
ny percent truth and
it was
lies When he liedt wet
hand ten percent
he it
percent lies and ten percent
He never dealt in pure falsehoods or pure facts.
Some of his ims sounded oundish but turned out to be true.
He deliberately mixed truth and fiction to keep people guessing and off bnce.
Initially, no one, including Skyler, had really believed Joshua when he imed Beckett was involved in Aurora''s kidnapping.
But now, they were beginning to have their doubts.
Because within this outrageous narrative, there was a clear andplete chain of reverse logic.
If Beckett was Mr. Vesper, he would
absolutely have the ability to hide Aurora where she couldn''t be found. And he could certainly establish connection with the Fordham Group brothers.
This would perfectly exin why he was monitoring and investigating Aurora.
The only remaining question was Beckett''s motive.
But Beckett had no ties to the Williams family, so his sudden partnership with them was already unusual.
As the saying goes, when someone''s being unusually nice, they''re usually up to no good.
Although they didn''t know what
Beckett was nning, his behavior had been strange from the moment he chose to partner with the Williams family.
Sensing what the Williams family was thinking, Joshua added more fuel to the fire.
"Mr. Torres, why don''t you exin to everyone why you suddenly decided to partner with the Williams family out of the blue?"
Ste lowered her gaze slightly and took a sip of tea.
Joshua was single-handedly controlling a room full of Williams family members, plus Beckett.
