"To you, your precious Star is the kindest person in the world. But in your heart, is Laurel just a calcting, self-serving woman?"
Joshua gave him a strange look. "The three of us have known each other for so long. Isn''t it obvious what kind of people we are? Laurel Quinn isn''t as kind as Star. That''s just a fact, isn''t it?
If you really want topare Laurel to Star, it would be more urate to say Laurel is more rational, clear-headed, and resourceful than Star."
Laurel''s face gradually turned pale.
Beckett smiled, but the smile didn''t reach his eyes, which were as cold as ice.
"More rational and clear-headed? You mean Laurel is better at weighing her options, right?
More resourceful... you mean she''s more ruthless?"
Joshua smiled and pped lightly, admitting it without hesitation.
"You really do know me. Good to know all these years weren''t for nothing."
Beckett sneered, "And you''re any better? You act all high and mighty in front of Ste, but you''re rotten to the core.
Once Ste finds out what you''re really like, do you think she''ll still want to be with you?"
Beckett was fuming. If Laurel hadn''t been holding him back, he would have charged forward.
This guy was just so infuriating!
He couldn''t stand him, but he couldn''t get rid of him either.
He had no idea what Laurel saw in him.
Joshua didn''t deny it, smiling instead. "Why would I let her find out? It''s better if she never knows, isn''t it?"
Checking the time, Joshua asked, "It''s gettingte. Are you going to continue this performance for me, or...?"
Laurel cut in before Beckett could speak. "We''re fine. You can go."
Joshua nced at the two of them before turning to leave.
Beckett''s voice rang out from behind him.
"Joshua, the day you get your memory back, you''re going to regret this!"
Joshua''s footsteps paused for just a moment before he continued on without looking back.
Watching Joshua''s retreating figure, Beckett looked as if he wanted to chase after him and say more.
Laurel held him back and shook her head.
"Beckett, Joshua has a new life now. Don''t bother him anymore."
Beckett looked at her. "But he''ll never know what you sacrificed."
Laurel gazed in the direction Joshua had disappeared. "That was my choice," she said softly.
"If he knew about all that, maybe he wouldn''t be with Ste," Beckett said.
Laurel shook her head. "No. If he hadn''t met Ste yet, maybe there''s a chance.
But now... no one can stop him from being with her."
She turned to face Beckett. "He didn''t kill you today, and it wasn''t because of me. He was worried that if he killed again, it would just create more obstacles between him and Ste.
Beckett, Ste is his Achilles'' heel, his bottom line.
You can''t touch her.
And if possible, I hope he never remembers any of it for the rest of his life."
Aurora and the others were blindfolded and taken to another location.
When the ck cloths were removed from their eyes, they all looked around in shock.
It was a private suite.
The decor wasvish, with gleaming crystal chandeliers so bright they were almost blinding.
The furniture was ornate and sophisticated, and the clean marble floor was polished to a mirror shine.
Gina before the girls and
spoke s?owly. "Now that you''re here,
you''ve officially taken the
first step
Leave your spoiled, entitled attitudes at the door. No one is going to coddle you
here.
The boss will be here in a bit, so you''d better be on your best behavior.
Don''t say anything you shouldn''t. Don''t say I didn''t warn you..."
As Gina was lecturing them, the door to the suite was suddenly pushed open.
An attendant respectfully held the door. "Sir, pleasee in."
Gina''s expression immediately
turned serious. It was clear that this so-called "sir" was the boss
had
just mentioned.
Judging by Gina''s attitude, he had to be someone important.
