"Joshua, Star, what are you two talking about? Don''t tell me you know who L is?"
Ste couldn''t bring herself to say that L might be Leonard. She murmured, "...Maybe it''s just a coincidence."
"There''s one way to find out if it''s a coincidence or not," Joshua said, looking at Ste and offering a suggestion. "Why don''t you give him a call, or a video chat, and see who he really is? It''s better to confirm his identity sooner rather thanter."
After a long silence, Ste finally nodded. "Okay."
While she and L weren''t exactly best friends, they had be something like kindred spirits through their conversations. They had discussed painting, the styles of various masters, and different techniques. Ste could clearly sense that L had a pure, unadulterated love for art.
And now she was being told that L might be Leonard? It felt absurd.
But she knew Joshua was right. Confirming L''s identity was for the best, for both of them.
With that thought, Ste initiated a voice call, wanting to at least determine if L was a man or a woman. However, L, who had just sent her a message, didn''t answer. The call rang until it disconnected automatically, and then a text came through.
[It''s not convenient for me to talk right now. Did you run into some kind of trouble? Do you need my help?]
Ste instinctively nced at Joshua, only to see a faint smile on his lips. He didn''t look surprised at all. It was as if he had already predicted that L wouldn''t answer the call.
If L wouldn''t even take a voice call, a video chat was out of the question.
Abby, who hadn''t caught on before, finally understood as she connected Joshua''sments about Leonard''s lost cat to L. "Wait... L is Leonard? No way!"
It wasn''t just Ste who refused to believe it; Abby couldn''t ept it either. To be honest, she had a pretty good impression of L.
Someone willing to adopt a stray cat and take such good care of ithad to be a Kind person, How could that he the same cold blooded monster as Leonard?
If anyone other than Joshua had been standing there saying this, she would have dismissed it as nonsense. But this was Joshua, and he wouldn''t make such a im without being certain.
But with L not answering the phone, how could they confirm his identity?
Joshua smiled faintly. "Simone is Leonard''s sister. She''s one of the people the trusts most. She might not know everything but after Leonard made such a scene searching for that cat, there''s no way she doesn''t know about it."
Joshua dialed Simone''s number directly. She answered almost instantly, her voice filled with excitement.
"Joshua?!"
"The cat Star gave to Leonard, was it found?" Joshua asked.
"It was found that same night," Simone blurted out. "Hey, how did you know about that?"
Leonard had turned the entire city upside down that night. It would have been strange if he hadn''t found it. The cat had run far, but thankfully no one had picked it up or, worse, cooked it for dinner Otherwise she suspected her not-so-normal brother would have gone on another rampage.
Joshua ignored her question and asked another. "Has Leonard been chatting with
Star often over the past six months?"
