Abby froze for a second. She murmured to herself, "Haynie? Is Star calling for Haynes?"
She nced at the time. Haynes was still in Solmaris. After Joshua left, Haynes had tried to see Ste a few times, but she had been too busy dealing with Sellers and had turned him down.
It felt wrong to disturb someone at this hour, but Abby remembered how Haynes
used to drop everything in the middle of the night for Rachel. She felt no guilt.
She immediately took out her phone to call him. Just as she dialed, Neville suddenly asked, "Are you sure she said ''Haynie,'' and not ''Joshua?""
Abby paused.
Neville continued, "I''ve never heard Star call Haynes ''Haynie.'' Of course, I don''t know what she called him when they were on good terms."
Abby''s mood sank like a stone. "Back when Star and Haynes were still close," she said quietly, "she called him ''Haynes.""
If it wasn''t Haynes she was calling for, then... it must have been Joshua.
Haynie, Joshua... It was an easy mistake to make.
Neville looked at Ste with aplicated expression.
Just then, Haynes answered the phone, his voice thick with sleep. "Abby? Why are
you calling at this hour? Did something happen to Star?"
Abby pursed her lips. "Star has a fever. You shoulde to the hospital."
"Which hospital?" Haynes said immediately. "I''m on my way."
After giving him the address, Abby hung up. She turned to Neville. "Even if she was probably calling for Joshua, there''s a chance she wasnt Besides, there''s no way to get Joshua here right now.
She let out a long sigh. "Star might not hate Joshua, and she might even forgive him, but that doesn''t mean she''s processed it. Honestly, we''ve been best friends for so many years, and I''ve never seen her this down. Even when she and Haynes had their falling out, she faced it head-on. Not like this, keeping everything bottled up just wish she would let out all the hurt and
sadness instead of keeping it inside. If you don''t release those emotions, you can get sick."
Abby was miserable, but she didn''t know how to help Ste. "First, Foreman stabs her in the back, betraying her trust. Now she finds out about Joshua... It''s just too much for her."
Abby knew what it felt like to be betrayed by someone you trust. While Foreman''s betrayal was a blow, he was never as important to Ste as Joshua was. What Joshua did... that was the fatal strike.
Neville gazed at Ste as she murmured softly in her sleep.
"When she wakes up, I''ll talk to her."
"Mr. Connolly, I''m counting on you," Abby said sincerely. Aside from herself and Antoney, Neville was the only one left who hadn''t hurt Ste. Ste would probably listen to him.
About half an hourter, Haynes arrived. He saw Neville in the room, paused for a moment, then gave a slight nod in greeting. Neville nodded back.
Haynes turned to Abby. "What happened? How did Star get a fever?"
Seeing him, Abby''s resentment red. "Why? Isn''t it because you and Foreman, for your own selfish reasons, exposed Joshua''s identity and drove him away from Star? she snapped. "Joshua may have hurt Star in the past, but recently, he''s done nothing but help her. Without his support, how could she have secured her position at The Williams Group so quickly? And let''s not forget your dear friend Foreman. If it
weren''t for Joshua''s money, he would''ve been ruined by Leonard long ago."
