Chapter 602

Jessica was on the verge of tears. After waiting for so long, Timothy had finally agreed to a divorce, only for this to happen.

Vince saw her distress. "He''s not answering?"

    "No."

"Don''t get upset, it''s not good for you. I''ll go find himter," Vince said, trying to soothe her. "And even if he changes his mind, don''t worry. If he won''t divorce you, then so be it. You have cancer. You can let the identity of ''Jessica Greene'' go. Once you''re healthy again, you''ll be Salome Zimmerman."

Vince was hoping to calm her down, to stop her from worrying about the divorce when her health was so fragile. Her condition was deteriorating, and he knew theing stages of her illness would bring even more pain. He couldn''t bear for her to waste any energy on this.

Jessica stopped trying to call Timothy. In her heart, she knew him well enough to understand. His message was a clear statement of his intentions. He had given her a deadline, and because she hadn''t met it, he was using it as an excuse. This was why she''d never told him about the cancer; she knew severing ties was the only way she could truly leave him.

"Vince," she said softly, "he''s never going to sign those papers now."

"Just focus on resting. Don''t think about it anymore. This hospital belongs to Herbert. When you copsed this morning, you scared me half to death. I didn''t want to reveal your condition without your permission, so I called him. You''re safer here. He''s already searching for a liver donor. We''re all going to do everything we can to get you better. Just rest. I''ll go talk to Timothy. If he really refuses, then Jessica Greene will simply cease to exist."

It seemed like the only option left.

Vince left the hospital, got into his car, and called Timothy. Timothy answered.

    "Where are you?"

    "The hospital."

Timothy gave him the address, and Vince hung up.

Not long after Vince left, Herbert entered Jessica''s room. He pushed the door open, and she stared at him, stunned. He closed it softly behind him and walked toward her bed, his eyes already red.

"You called me a fool," he said, his voice thick with emotion as he reached her side. “But you''re just as foolish. I''m a doctor. Why did you hide this from me for so long?"

"At first, the doctors said it was untreatable, that I only had six months left: I was nning to just spend that time alone. But you, you gave me hope by helping me With my aphonia. After I went abroad,

got a second opinion and found out there was still a chance."

Herbert sat down heavily, his gaze filled with sorrow and affection. "There is still a chance. I''ve already contacted my former ssmates colleagues, and mentors, both here and overseas We will find yo a match. We''ll get your into surgery as soon as possible."

"Herbert, thank you," she whispered. "Without you, I probably would have given up

all hope. Thank you for doing so much for me." She knew he had feelings for her.

But in her condition, she couldn''t promise him anything.

Vince arrived at Timothy''s hospital room to find him on an IV drip.

"Did Jessica send you?" Timothy asked immediately.

"No, I came on my own." Vince took a seat. “Do you know why she didn''t make it to City Hall today?"

    as Silent for a moment

    Timothy was

before replying, “I don''t know, and I don''t want to know. Since she didn''te, the divorce is off. I called her, I texted her. She wanted this so badly, yet she didn''t show up. I think maybe even fate doesn''t want us to divorce."
