Around ten dayster, Cole and Sarah''s engagement ceremony was held as scheduled.
Given that Cole had only recently broken off an engagement with Regina and was now rushing into another one, the event was kept extremely low-key.
The engagement ceremony was held on the hotel''s top floor. The entire Jansen family was present, but only a few elders from the Larson side showed up, along with Cole''s parents. Even Calvin made an excuse about needing rest and didn''t appear.
The two exchanged rings, and the ceremony ended in a rush. The event wrapped up in a cold, awkward atmosphere.
Sarah threw herself into Rachel''s arms, sobbing softly.
"When Cole got engaged to Regina, the celebration was so grand! Why is it so rushed and shabby when it''s my turn? It''s not fair!"
She didn''t darein to Cole directly, so she could only cling to Rachel and vent.
Startled by the sudden hug, Rachel pushed her away hard with a faint sh of anger in her eyes.
"What are you so impatient for? Once you marry into the Larsons, you''ll have endless wealth and status! If you''re already so shortsighted and restless now, how are you going to achieve anything big? How will you be my supportter?"
Sarah was stunned by the push.
"Mom, did you just push me?"
"You''re the one being reckless! What if you hurt your mom?" Howard rushed over, hugging Rachel protectively while ring at Sarah.
"You''re about to have a younger brother. And now, you''re already epted by the Larson family. Isn''t it a double blessing? What''s the rush? Give it some time. I promise that I''ll make sure the Larson family holds a proper engagement party for you again."
A younger brother? Sarah stared in disbelief at Rachel''s belly.
ncing down at the engagement dress she was wearing, she felt a wave of bitterness surge in her chest.
Just as she was about to step into the Larson family, a new sibling was on the way to steal some of her spotlight.
Holding back the frustration burning inside, she muttered, "Dad, you have to keep your word. You can''t forget about my engagement party just because of the baby."
"Of course, of course. You''re my precious daughter. I''d never let you be treated unfairly," Howard reassured her quickly, but his hands stayed glued protectively to Rachel''s belly.
He fully intended to push for a formal engagement partyter. After all, how else would people know his daughter was marrying the future head of the Larson family? He still had ns to use this marriage to attract new investors for the Jansen Group.
The three of them stood together, each with their own selfish motives.
Meanwhile, ughter from the Larsons drifted over.
"We''ve been living overseas for years and don''te back often. Sorry we missed the wedding. Here, just a little gift for you. Please don''t refuse it."
Another uncle added with a chuckle, "Even Cofe has already engaged. You two got your marriage
certificate months ago. How lime.
you haven''t thrown a wedding yet? My gift has been gathering dust."
"Serena, you''re such a beautiful and sweet woman. No wonder Mr. Larson Senior
likes you so much..." someone else said warmly.
A few of the distant rtives, rarely
seen at family gatherings, had taken the chance to use Cole''s
engagement party as an excuse Shower Serena and Hugh with
betated wedding gifts.
After all, Hugh was now the real pir of the Larson Group. Their yearly bonuses depended heavily on his management.
Hugh remained cold and impassive, speaking only a few words.
However, Serena handled everything gracefully. She was smiling brightly as she greeted the rtives.
He let her entertain them for a while. However, when he noticed a few greedy types trying to inch closer, he swept a cold nce at them.
"Uncle Marvin, you must be tired after your trip," Hugh said coolly.
The overseas rtive froze awkwardly. He was desperate to curry favor. Why would he be tired?
However, under Hugh''s icy stare, he didn''t dare take another step forward.
The others quickly got the hint. Watching how protective Hugh was of Serena, they all wisely backed off.
Serena took a sip of her champagne.
