The atmosphere between the two was subtly tense.


    But in the quiet room, their small movements seemed magnified a hundredfold.


    Calvin was even more pleased with Serena. He couldn''t get Hugh to soften his attitude, but she had managed to do so.


    He cleared his throat and spoke.


    "Tonight''s events have already spread through the upper circles. If we want to silence the rumors, we''ll need a solid exnation. Cole had already broken off his engagement with the Arnold family. Ms. Sarah, do you have any marriage engagements?"


    His sharp gaze swept toward Sarah.


    Sarah immediately understood his meaning. She forced down the overwhelming joy in her heart and shook her head.


    "N-Not yet!"


    "Hold on, Grandpa," Eric said, quickly intervening as he saw the situation going south.


    "It''s true that legitimizing their rtionship is a good solution, but Serena is Hugh''s wife. If her sister marries my son, their rtionship would be tooplicated. People will justugh at us."


    Calvin paused for a moment.


    Sarah immediately shot a venomous re at Serena. She shouldn''t have let Serena marry into the Larson family in the first ce.


    Seeing everyone remain silent, Eric continued, "If they truly love each other and take it slowly, no one could say anything. But technically speaking, Sarah would be Cole''s aunt-inw. If the public hears about Cole getting involved with his aunt- inw, it''s a bit inappropriate, right? What do you think, Serena?"


    Everyone''s gaze turned to Serena again.


    Eric looked at her with a faint smile,ced with warning, as if to say, "Do you really want your sister marrying someone who''ll technically be your nephew?"


    It was a subtle provocation.


    Serena narrowed her eyes slightly.


    She didn''t care much for Sarah, and she wasn''t bothered by the provocation, nor the gossip. But she also wasn''t too eager to help Sarah gain a foothold in the family.


    It was a tricky situation.


    Cole, who had been silent all along, lifted his gaze and looked at Serena.


    Noticing her hesitation, his heart leapt. Perhaps she disagreed with his marriage


    to Sarah, and that meant Serena might have feelings for him.


    What he didn''t know was that Hugh had already noticed his gaze.


    Hugh broke the silence and said, "Before the engagement, it''s an aunt-nephew rtionship. Once they''re married, the Larson family will follow our own rules, and the Jansen family will follow theirs.


    "Cole already broke off his engagement with Regina. Now every socialite in


    Javerton City is keeping their distance from him. This might actually be the perfect time for him to get married."


    Serena and Eric both looked at Hugh in shock. Neither had expected Hugh to make such a decision.


    Calvin''s eyes also showed a flicker of doubt. "Hugh, do you really think it''s better for them to be together?"


    "It''s not that I think so."


    Hugh met Calvin''s eyes and continued calmly, "I''ll support it whatever Grandpa decides. Serena is my wife. If Eric is backing up Cole, it''s inevitable that our words may seem biased. It''s better to fattow Grandpa''s lead."


    Eric clenched his jaw. Hugh was actually putting on an act for Calvin.


    Calvin''s gaze flickered between Hugh and Cole.


    Just as Sarah was about to step forward and speak for herself, Calvin looked at


    Cole and spoke in a low voice.


    "Then, we''ll do as

    work for these two. Hugh, just tell everyone that they have been in a long-term rtionship. They were
