"You''re actually pretty good atforting people. Just give it a little more effort."
ra never saw herself as theforting type-especially not with men-but then Aiden said,
"No matter where you go, just take him with you. Don''t leave him home alone to overthink everything."
Honestly, that alone was enough to make Dn''s day.
ra wanted to ask more, but Aiden closed his eyes, looking exhausted, so she just got up and left quietly.
Back in the car, Ryan nodded toward a vehicle parked down the street.
"ra, is that car following us?"
She answered, totally unfazed, "Took you long enough to notice."
It had been tailing her since she''d left home, not even trying to be subtle- definitely one of Dn''s guys.
She''d told Dn not to have anyone follow her. He ignored her anyway.
Ryan figured ra would be busy now-diving into her mysterious past, hunting down lost memories-so when she pulled up in front of a flower shop, he was caught off guard.
He frowned. "Shouldn''t you be, I don''t know, investigating your past or something?"
ra, already picking out flowers, didn''t even look up. "Anyone curious about my past will show up on their own. As for my memory, I have a feeling it''lle back soon. So for now, there''s really not much to do. Might as well spend my time cheering up my man."
Ryan''s expression soured instantly. He hadn''t signed up for a day of ying sidekick while she doted on Dn.
Dn, of all people?
He was clearly annoyed, but he didn''t dare say anything to ra''s face. So when she got back in the car, he snorted, "Honestly, were you just pretending to be trapped with him? Now you''re cool with his men spying on you too. I don''t get what''s going on between you two. If you like him, just say so have a kid, be happy. Otherwise, if Dn has a kid with someone else one day, you won''t even know whether tough or cry."
ra set the flowers down beside her. "He''s probably liked me for a long time. No way he''d have a kid with anyone else."
Ryan wanted to argue, but stopped himself—Dn did have a child.
When the car pulled up at ra''s building, she gathered her flowers and headed upstairs. Ryan didn''t bother following. "ra, I''lle by another day."
"Okay," she replied, waving as she stepped into the elevator.
When she got home, Dn was standing by the window.
ra walked over, realizing he could see the whole street from there could watch her leave ande back.
She shoved the bouquet into his arms. "Didn''t I say your people didn''t need to follow me?"
He didn''t answer, just nced at the flowers and started looking for a vase-like he''d done it a hundred times before.
ra flopped onto the sofa, propped her chin on her hand, and started ying a game on her phone.
Honestly, she had nothing urgent to do these days. She figured she might as well stay home, recover, and keep himpany. After all, he needed time to heal too.
Dn found a vase, arranged the flowers, and set them on the dining table. The sun was shining in, warm and golden. ra patted the seat next to her.
He sat down.
"Dn, is there anywhere you want to travel to? Or maybe somewhere a bit adventurous? You''ve been working all night recently, and you handled all the stuff with Ferguson Corporation, right? Plus, in a month you might be off to North America. Don''t you want to go somewhere together before then? Any ideas?" After talking to Aiden, all she wanted was to make some memories together- something just for the two of them.
But Dn shook his head. "I don''t want to go out."
A wave of memories hit ra-she remembered a car ident, remembered leaving him behind. The look in his eyes back then was burned into her mind, sharp and painful.
To him, every trip outside was a chance she might leave him again.
She took a deep breath, realizing just how deep his scars went-not just emotionally, but mentally too.
"This time, I''m not leaving you," she said.
He looked up at her, and she raised her hand in a mock oath. "I want to go out with you. Let''s climb a mountain, go on some crazy adventure-just us."
He hesitated for a while, then finally said, "There''s a ce...it''s in Southeast Asia."
She lit up instantly, cupping his face in her hands. "Perfect! You pick the spot, I''ll follow. Let''s go."
Suddenly, she was all energy-searching for flights, making a list of what they''d need.
That evening, they headed back to Palm Bay, packed two backpacks, and before the night was over, they were on a ne together. Dn seemed to have contacts there—afternding, they took a helicopter straight into the rainforest.
The whole way, ra kept noticing how different he seemed like he was remembering something good. His eyes looked softer, and when he stared out the window, he even caught himself smiling.
She thought, this trip was already worth it. He didn''t seem so tense anymore. When theynded, a group of big guys came to meet them, speaking English. The leader wore a bandana and had amanding presence.
They got onto the helicopter, both carrying guns-apparently, the rainforest could be dangerous.
ra asked, "So we''re staying in there for seven days, just to see if we can handle it. Sound good?"
"Yeah," he replied, already digging through his backpack, trying to cram all her stuff into his.
ra reached over and grabbed his hand. "No need. If I still need you to take care of me out here, what''s the point ofing? You''ve got to trust me."
He fell silent.
They were both dressed down for the trip-Dn in ck joggers and a ck windbreaker, backpack slung over one shoulder.
ra wore the same. She''d never seen him like this before, and couldn''t help stepping closer, checking him out.
"Wow, my husband is seriously good-looking. This look? Total knockout."
His grip on his backpack tightened, lips pressing together, eyes dropping shyly.
