Chapter 1420

    Chapter 1420:

Haley wondered aloud, “Maybe it’s insecurity? Some men get intimidated if their backgrounds are too different.”

“That can’t be it. He’s in charge of Anita International now and owns a significant stake in thepany.” Jessica shook her head with certainty. “Just his yearly dividends are more than Prescott Group’s entire ie.”

“Maybe it’s a physical problem?” Haley threw out another guess.

“I really don’t think so.” Jessica dismissed the idea, remembering the time she caught him off guard on the sofa with a kiss. Something had definitely changed in him that night. There was no way he was impotent.

Haley hesitated, then tried again. “Could he be seriously ill? Maybe he’s hiding something.”

“That’s exactly the kind of thing Jack said.” Jessica gave a tiredugh, then took another sip. “Anita International sends everyone for health check-ups twice a year. If he had something serious, they’d already be treating him.”

Jessica knew that Freya was close to her uncle. There was no doubt Freya would have heard about any health issues Melvin might have had.

Haley leaned back, considering the situation. “If it’s not about his background or his health, there’s only one exnation left.”

    “What’s that?”

“He must not be into you.”

“No way. That’s impossible.” Jessica shot that down immediately. With everything they’d experienced together, she felt certain Melvin had feelings for her.

“So why not test him?” Haley leaned in, lowering her voice. “I’ll pretend there’s a family emergency and step out. You act like you’ve had too much to drink and make a move on him.”

The idea sparked a hint of mischief in Jessica’s eyes. “You really think I should?”

“Go for it,” said Haley, not missing a beat.

“Fine, I’ll do it,” Jessica replied, her eyes flickering with anticipation.

They continued their conversation, sipping at their drinks.

Despite appearances, neither of them was actually tipsy. The fruit wine Haley picked out was light enough to keep them clear-headed.

After another thirty minutes or so, Haley nced at Jessica, sending her a knowing look, then grabbed her phone and slipped out of the room.

“Jessica’s drunk. Can you watch over her for a bit?” Haley stood at the door, urgency in her eyes as she nced at Melvin. “I’ve got something to take care of back home.”

“Sure, no problem.” Melvin nodded without hesitation.

Haley gave a brief thanks before leaving the room. But instead of going far, she reserved a few rooms downstairs for herself and the three men.

Though Jessica trusted Melvin, Haley couldn’t shake the urge to stay close, just in case. They remained within reach, ready to rush in if Jessica needed them.<fnaa4e> N?w ?ovel chapt?rs are published on f?ndnovel</fnaa4e>

Melvin entered the room to find Jessica on the floor, her posture slumped like a child lost in a crowd. She absentmindedly traced circles on her wine ss as if the world around her didn’t exist. Moving toward her, he draped his suit jacket over her shoulders and gently took the ss from her hand.
