?Chapter 1417:
Melvin didn’t reply, his silence heavy.
“Let me take you home,” he said, shifting the topic, eager to move on.
Jessica slid the jacket off and handed it back. “No thanks. Go on your own if you want.”
“Jessica—”
“Either stay and spend the night with me, or leave and let me have my night.”
“You can’t just act on a whim like this—”<fn9109> Official source is FιndNovel</fn9109>
“Out!” Jessica snapped, her patience gone.
Why did he keep dodging her? Was she really not attractive to him at all?
“I’ll go. Don’t be upset.” Melvin gently ced the jacket over her again, now wearing only his crisp white shirt.
He nced back as he walked out but finally left.
When the door clicked shut, Jessica flopped onto the sofa, frustrated. Stupid Melvin! So dense.
Her ns had fallen apart, and she had no desire to stay in the hotel. She opened the door and froze. Melvin was still there, standing tall outside.
Her mind swirled with confusion.
“What are you doing?” she asked, bewildered.
“Keeping an eye out,” Melvin said earnestly, shivering slightly in his thin shirt. “Rest well.”
He was making sure no other guy could show up.
Jessica was at a loss for words. Part of her found him sweet, part of her wanted to scream.
Seeing him standing there in just a shirt, she tossed his jacket at him. “I don’t need a guard. Take this and go. If you don’t like me, don’t mess with my night.”
“Okay,” Melvin said, catching the jacket.
Jessica turned and mmed the door.

Ten minutester, she peeked through the peephole—Melvin was still there.
She texted her best friend, Haley Vargas.
Half an hourter, Haley arrived at the hotel room with three guys in tow. Melvin’s eyes narrowed as Haley raised her hand to knock.
“What’s this about?” he asked, his voice cold.
“I’m here for Jessica,” Haley said with a bright smile, her charm matching Jessica’s. “She asked me to bring her delivery.”
“Delivery?” Melvin’s gaze flicked over the group.
Not seeing any packages, he pressed, “What delivery?”
“These three are what Jessica ordered,” said Haley, her expression serious.
Melvin gave the trio a long, puzzled stare. Three men?
Haley paid him no mind. Instead, she grabbed her phone and ced a call to Jessica. “They’ve arrived.”
Without dy, Jessica swung the door open.
