?Chapter 1395:
“What are you doing?”
“Thank you for taking care of me these past few days. Since you don’t like me, there’s no reason for me to stay here and bother you,” Jessica said, her voice even, almost too polite. A faint, distant smile hovered on her lips. “I’ll probably move in with Jack tomorrow.”
“You don’t even like him,” Melvin said, baffled by how quickly everything was changing.
“That’s true. But if the person I like doesn’t like me back, then I’ll just find someone with a simr background,” Jessica replied, her tone serious, with no hint of irony. “My dad and Jack’s dad go way back. They get along well, so I won’t be mistreated if I marry him.”
Melvin’s hands froze by his sides. He wanted to tell her not to do it. He wanted to say that Jack—who couldn’t even properly let go of his past flings—wasn’t someone worth marrying.
But the words stuck. Because if he said that, she would only throw it back at him, reminding him he had no right to meddle. After all, he didn’t like her.
Caught in a storm of emotions, he asked quietly, “Have you made up your mind?”
“Yes.” Jessica gave a small nod.
“I’ll take you there tomorrow,” Melvin said as he shut her suitcase and ced it down carefully. “Stay here tonight.”
Jessica shot back, “That’s not appropriate.”
Melvin dropped his gaze, his calm and detached expression giving away nothing beneath the surface.
Jessica didn’t push him. She knew he was someone who needed a little nudge. She hadn’t actually called Jack earlier—just faked the entire conversation.
“Stay here for a while. I’ve got something urgent to take care of,” Melvin said after thinking for a moment. There was something unreadable in his expression, aplexity etched across his handsome features. “Once I’m done, we’ll talk in detail.”
He hadn’t offered to drive her home directly because he knew her too well. If he’d said he would drop her off once he was finished, she would have immediately called a driver instead.
Jessica raised an eyebrow, skeptical.

She didn’t quite buy the whole “urgent” thing—especially not at this hour. Melvin didn’t borate. Without another word, he picked up his car keys and left, fully confident she wouldn’t actually go anywhere. The moment he stepped outside, she silently followed after him.
An hourter.
In a private room tucked inside a nightclub.
Melvin stood at the doorway, his stare like ice as itnded on Jack, who was sprawled out with two women hanging off each arm. His voice was cold as steel. “Step outside. We need to talk.”<fnfb49> ?????? ???? ?ovelFind</fnfb49>
“Mr. Bowman, who’s this?” asked a woman.
“How could you keep such a handsome man all to yourself?” teased another.
Jack, a little thrown off by Melvin’s sudden arrival, respondedzily, “No idea who he is. But if you’re feeling bold, go ahead and try your luck. Ten grand to whoever can crack this frosty guy.”
