Chapter 1390:
Freya answered, “Why not take the chance?”
Jessica’s eyes lit up with a mix of nervousness and excitement, her heart pounding all over the ce. “I’ll think about it.”
At the same time, Melvin was nearly done with dinner. He called Jessica over. In just under ten minutes, Jessica had already finished her food, her mind set on having a serious conversation with him.
“You didn’t like the food today?” Melvin asked, surprised by how quickly she cleared her te.
“It was fine.” Jessica was lost in thought, even while eating. “You go ahead and finish. I need to talk to you after this.”
Realizing she was serious, Melvin stayed quiet and kept eating.
When he was done, Jessica led him into the study.
The mood turned slightly tense, and Melvin began to feel a bit uneasy. “What’s going on?”
“What do you think of me?” Jessica blurted out, courage rising in her chest.
“You’re great.”
“In what way?”
“In every way.”
“Then how about I be your girlfriend?” As she spoke, she looked him straight in the eyes, her heart thudding wildly. “Not just pretend—your actual girlfriend.”
Melvin looked stunned, his eyes flickering with emotion.
She pressed further, “What would you say?”
Melvin hesitated, lips pressing into a thin line. After a pause, he finally said, “Having a real girlfriend means the feelings have to be mutual. And we don’t have that.”
“I have a crush on you,” Jessica said directly. “Do you have feelings for me?”
Melvin lookedpletely thrown off. He furrowed his brow, holding her gaze, and spoke slower than usual. “Don’t you have a thing for Gerard?”

Even if her feelings had changed, it didn’t make sense that they would shift so quickly. “That was all a lie. I don’t feel anything for him.” Jessicaid it bare. “The one I care for is you. It’s always been you.”
She stepped a little closer as she spoke. “What about you? Do you feel anything?”
Melvin tried to answer, but her closeness had his heartbeat spiraling out of control.
She leaned in, her voice soft against his ear. “Do you?”
“I don’t know,” he blurted out.
“That means you do.” Jessica took that as her green light and began plotting. “Come home with me this weekend to meet my parents and make our rtionship official.”
Melvin’s mind went nk as he followed along.
“Oh, and…” Jessica kept going.
“What?”
