?Chapter 1388:
When they got back, she immediately started sorting through his closet, organizing the new outfits so he could easily grab what he needed.
“Melvin,” she said, noticing theck of finishing touches in his wardrobe, “don’t you have any cufflinks, watches, or brooches?”
“No,” he answered, as inly as ever.
“You’re the president of Anita International. You’re the face of thepany,” Jessica said, clearly itching for another shopping round. “What do you do when you need to dress formally?”
“I don’t go to those kinds of events,” Melvin replied earnestly.
Neither he nor Freya were the type to show up to social functions unless absolutely necessary. Even when they did, they kept it low-key.
Jessica paused, remembering how Freya had rarely attended such things over the years, and decided not to press further.
Just then, Melvin’s phone rang. He nced at the screen, a slight frown forming as reluctance flickered in his eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Jessica asked, noticing the change in his expression.
“Nothing,” Melvin said, pressing his lips together. “I need to take this in the study.”
He stepped out of the bedroom and into the study.
Once the door closed, he answered the call, his voice colder than usual.
“It’s your dad speaking,” said Turner Swain.
“I know who you are. What do you want?”
“Your cousin is in Alerith now. Aren’t you some big-shot executive? Get him a job,” the voice ordered, casual andmanding. “Something cushy but with a nice paycheck.”
“He’s not a good fit for Anita International,” Melvin said coolly, not wavering for a second.
Turner sounded annoyed. “That’s not your call to make. I already told your aunt. Don’t make me lose face.”
“That’s not mypany. I’m just an employee,” Melvin said tly, revealing nothing about his shares. “He’s not qualified. You shouldn’t make promises you can’t keep.”

Melvin didn’t respond.
Turner exhaled sharply, clearly frustrated. “Do you even respect me as your father?”
Melvin’s fingers tightened around the phone, the calm in his voice starting to crack.
“I don’t care if he’s qualified or not. You’re going to get him in,” Turner demanded.
“That’s not my responsibility,” Melvin replied icily, his gaze darkening. “If you have nothing else to say, I’m hanging up.”
“Don’t you dare!” Turner shouted. “I raised you—and you won’t do me this one favor?”
Melvin’s lips pressed into a thin, hard line. After a brief silence, he spoke slowly, “Did you really raise me?”
